Canister Shot
1.5 inch canister shot. Small lead balls were packed tightly into a canister and fired from a cannon. When fired, the canister disintegrates and its shards and projectiles spread out causing a wide swath of destruction similar to a shotgun.
Canteen
One narrow wooden canteen made with horizontal wooden staves and two thick wooden bands. Each side is filled with a single panel of wood. The opening is a higher stave or piece of wood that makes it even with the bands on either side. The hole is small and round, with no plug or cork remaining. One side has a "k" carved into it and the other has two carvings. One is either "E x E" or "E x L" and the other is an "I" or an "L." All of these letters have a small line across the middle of the upright part of the letter. On either side of the opening is leather fragments and rusty nails, where the handle once was. It is unfinished.

One wooden canteen, painted red. The wooden staves are wide and horizontal, with two wooden bands on each end to secure the single panel wood sides to the body. The opening has a surround of thicker wood, with a central hole bored through. There is no plug or cork and no evidence of a hanging strap.

Canteen with oak staves and paired iron banding. Oval shape with iron spigot on top. Linked chain carrying strap with much wear to links. Remains of paint on the flat wood panels on each side.
Carbine Cartridge Box
One leather Federal issue Civil War carbine cartridge box made by J. Davy & Co. in Newark, NJ. Front of leather case lifts to reveal a second flap opening to a compartment where the cartridges were kept. Most likely there was a wood or tin insert to hold them. A third flap opens to a shallow flat compartment that closes with a small leather tab. On the front of the case another leather tab is used to secure it to a brass knob on the bottom. There are two loops on the back that could be secured to a belt and two buckles that could attach to a strap. A horizontal strap is also attached.
Carbine Cartridge Box
One leather Federal issued Civil War .58 caliber carbine cartridge box, Model 1855 made by S. Young & Co. In Newark, NJ. Front of leather case has a brass "US" cartridge box plate. Under the large outer flap the interior has a second flap over the main compartment which still has the original tin insert inside. A third flap with a leather tab secures a flat pocket on the side. The exterior flap can be secured by a leather tab that a brass stud fits through. There are two straps on the back to secure the box to a belt. There are also two buckles for a shoulder strap. Has a very faint R. White inspector mark on the front.

Hand forged carpenter's pliers. Found in the blacksmith box owned by JT Caley. Possibly used as horse shoe removers and horse hoof cutters.
