Lace flounce 11.5” high by 38” long, both sides scalloped. with what looks like an Alencon needle point ground incorporating Honiton motifs. The overall design looks typical of the last quarter of the 18th C There is a border on either side of the width giving the effect of twisting ribbons of leaves and small flowers with an intricate mesh filling. In between these two edges is a delicate serpentine floral design on a wide mesh reseau. The top and bottom edges of this piece appear to have been cut; originally it was a longer lace accessory. A very unusual and rare piece of Honiton lace."

Bizarre construction of fine white cotton in the form of a band, like a waistband to which is attached a cotton cloth, skirt-fashion, having vertical bands of hand needlerun lace insertion. The band is crudely darted every few inches, and the cloth has been slashed away. One edge retains the perimeter of an embroidered motif that looks very similar to No. 2009.041.20.

40” of 3.5” lace edging. probably linen, ecru (not as white as appears here). No cordonnet but does have a succession of bilaterally symmetrical motifs that look very baroque, including a vaguely two headed eagle and a samovar!. Beautifully detailed and delicate, and organized .Karen Augusta:A flat needlepoint lace or Point Plat. The toile principally has meandering and serpent-like vines with small flowers, interspersed are teapots on a stand and stylized birds, possibly double-headed eagles. The reseau is distinctive, a 5 sided honey-comb with small double picot in the center of each side. This is most likely an example of Point plat d’Espagne. In the 16th C only Spain was legally allowed use of a double-headed eagle in her laces. Spain imported a great deal of lace from France, Venice & Flanders (a Spanish dominion). Whether this lace was made in Spain or for Spain is nearly impossible to determine.

Variety of exquisitely worked bobbin lace motifs carefully attached to a long piece of silk machine tulle curved as if intended to become a collar. Also has a couple of needle lace motifs as well. One flower has a very tiny lace roundel within each petal, like Italian lace. Perhaps these were rescued from a length of lace whose ground was shot. It appears to be an Early Brussels.Karen Augusta:Finely worked bobbin lace motifs of various techniques have been assembled together, hand stitched onto a machine made mesh ground in the shape of a bertha. The designs of these elements include leaves and large scale exotic blossoms. 18th C Brabant and Point d’Angleterre are the two types of bobbin lace found on this assembled piece.

This narrow edging example is worked very crudely in both the bobbin and the needle lace. I would date this piece to the early 20th C. "

Fragment of needlepoint lace, ivory linen microscope identified. Vaguely strawberry shaped with spray of foliage around it. Suggests tape lace bent to form leaves with decorative vein. Inner area has one fill and the interior of the strawberry another in the form of solid and ‘holey’ bands. Very heavy cord around it, oversewn with groups of small picots on the outer edge. Small cordonet outlines the leaves. Brides, one with picot.About 1.5” square.

Cut steel ornament of intersecting circles and ellipses; ring at each end for hairpin; truncated cone-shaped centers; individually rivetted into brass base.

Small tiara, individually inserted small cut steel rivets, brass base. Double rows forming Greek key motif in graduated sizes. V in center with larger rivet at base. Straight sided hairpins at each end, attached by twist at top of hairpin to end of tiara. 1.25” x 6.5” - 2.5” hairpin.

Hair ornament made of horn (”blonde tortoiseshell”?) in the form of an arrow 6 3/4” long, with a globe at the head, to which is attached an eyelet for a loose ring that perfectly encircles the globe. The globe has a small silver 6-pointed star with seed pearls in the center and each point; the ring is mostly covered with a slim silver crescent with seed pearls. The side of the crescent has impressed marks;one is hard to discern but looks like a profile of a person seated on the floor, clasping his legs, a parrot on a branch, or a leaf draped over a twig. The next is clearly marked MR; the third is unintelligible, a small square with perhaps “N” in it. Near the point, the word “PATENT” is impressed.

Hair ornament consisting of a heavy wire arc covered with turquoise silk chenille yarn between a pair of decorations formed of turquoise silk ‘pipe cleaners’ looped around 4 clusters of blown-glass pearls, each with 2 short loops of turquoise satin ribbon and a large fringe of turquoise silk chenille loops. Seems to be of a size to fit over a chignon or bun, rather than across or around the head.

Wax orange blossom ornaments, beautifully detailed, for unspecified occasion in 1879 by L G Dyer (presumably Lillian Pittmann Greene Dyer). a) A long trailing piece extending from a spray- perhaps worn on the top of a large braid or the like and trailing down the looped braid .b) A smaller spray, perhaps for the bosom.

Snood crocheted with black sik thread. A circle of a simple square mesh design, studded at each intersection with a single steel bead. Loops around the circumference were threaded with a narrow wool soutache braid drawstring.

Pair of adult women's fine cotton pantalettes. Entirely hand-stitched. Bottom edges have five shallow tucks, each sandwiched between two rows of small VanDyke points. Top edge has simple 1/8" turn and turn hem. No evidence of drawstring Top corner of one pantalette has a square of same cotton sewn into place - could be a repair or piecing. Tops of both pantalettes have a name stamped in ink: "E. L. Bennett."

Entirely hand-stitched man's pantaloons speculated to be made of white cotton fustian or heavy jean, indeterminate twill striped. Narrow waist, wide hips, full seat, legs with two seams at ankles, and fairly narrow calves. The outer seams end in ankle slits without closing ties or buttons. Wide fall. 5 button height on waist opening, welted watch pocket. High rise. Faced with linen. Braces buttons. No back waist adjustment. No side pockets. White cotton braid (shows the early use of civilian braid decoration) down the center front seam. Two side seams, and also outlining the side front buttonholes extending down into a small fancy knot. For a fairly tall man. Seem to have been custom-fitted to him.

Boy's pantaloons made of blue windowpane-checked cotton; entirely hand-stitched with what would be handspun linen. The checks are made of 2 ends in the warp and 2 picks in the weft, but the latter is made by combining a blue and a white single-ply thread in the shuttle, which results in the threads twisting here and there, creating an ikat effect. High-waisted. Wide fall front faced with home-woven linen. Has a wide welted watch pocket, and the bag is made of coarse home-woven linen. No side pockets. Legs have 2 seams, the inner ones shaped to the calf, the outer ones ending in slits above the ankles where there are the remains of PW linen ties. 2 pairs of eyelets in the back waist. 3 bone sew-through buttons and 2 dyed bone buttons in the front.

Partly machine-stitched and hand-stitched lady's pantaloons made of cotton. The printed design is considered 'mille fleur' which is an ivy and flower pattern. The waistband is cut of the same fabric. Stripes of border design printed on cotton down each side seam of pantaloon legs which consists of cabbage roses design flanked by two stripes of white linework. The pantaloon legs are full to the end, extending some distance above the ankle. The crotch is set very low or the pantaloon's legs end very high. Dyed vegetable ivory buttons on either leg end. Buttonholes across the top waistband on either side - five on each side. Buttonholes on the waistband are finished quickly by hand and not neatly. Full volume at the back, while the front is less full. Both front and are set into the waistband rather sloppily. Unlined.

Entirely hand-stitched boy's trousers made of heavy white and blue checked cotton. Simple overlapped closure front with 2 stamped brass buttons. 9 vertical buttonholes in the waistband. Pocket in each side seam. Tubular leg holes.

Entirely hand-stitched pants made of buff cotton. Seems to be Nankeen. Wide fall covering 4-button closure with an angled pocket welt on either side. Watch pocket. Stamped or cast brass ‘work’ buttons for suspenders as well as for fall. Pairs of small bone buttons to receive an under-foot strap. Back strap and heavy brass belt buckle in the back. Rather straight legs and high waist.

Entirely hand-stitched trousers made of loosely woven plain-woven cotton with widely spaced brown / blue pinstripes with very pale orange or lavender-blue pinstripes in between — siamoise? Pieced. All seams were stitched with linen and felled with fine pink silk. Each leg is cut on grain but one is angled downward at the center front of the waist to produce bias in the crotch area. Leg ends self-bound; reinforcing strip sewn over the lower 2” of the inseam. Wide ‘waistband’ of a single layer of rough cotton with its selvage as a finish on the top. No placket or opening anywhere.

Entirely hand-stitched Cossack pants made of white plain weave cotton with a widely spaced 3-thread pale yellow silk pinstripe. The torso front is pleated into the waistband which closes with 3 buttons. Narrow fall. Welted watch pocket. Side pockets with button flaps. Grooved bone buttons. One button per brace end, no tie or other waist adjustment in the back. High rise, the legs taper a little and may have come just to the ankles. No evidence of foot straps. Rather large stitches. This was for a very tall man.

Entirely hand-stitched boy's trousers made of dark-ground block-printed calico with 3 blue selvage threads. Straight legs with 2" band (each one is pieced) added to bottoms. High rise; 3-self-covered button waist. Pocket in proper right at the bottom of the waistband. Wide fall faced with what is probably handwoven cotton / linen, some of it is blue-striped. Full bottom. One front button was replaced with a simple die-stamped pewter button. Stitching is not done with the greatest finesse.

Partly machine-stitched and hand-stitched boy's trousers made of cotton muslin in a natural colorway. Splits on sides with metal button closure at sides. Both buttons are present. Braided stripes are sewn down the sides of the pants on the outside. No usual center front closure; instead there are two ties and four loops sewn around the waist on the outside of the pants.

Entirely hand-stitched pants made of heavy waled linen, perhaps a kind of fustian. Wide fall front with 7 bone buttons. The Interior closes with 4 bone buttons. Watch pocket and two side pockets with slanting welts, underneath the fall. The back of the trousers with a double-pointed top about 5.25” higher than the front. Adjustment gusset with 1 pair of eyelets for ties. 4 bone buttons in front, and 2 in the back for suspenders. Legs fairly straight and narrow with pairs of bone buttons on either side of the foot for attachment of strap.

Entirely hand-stitched pants made of thin white cotton. Straight legs. Wide fall front with concealed welt pocket on the proper right side. The crotch has been reinforced. The seat is not deep. No belts or eyelets in the back waist. Cast and turn brass 4-hole buttons. 4 buttons across fall, 3 on the fly, and 4 for braces. They seem to be the original ones.

Entirely hand-stitched boy’s trousers made of wool with ivory and blue-green checks. Side buttoning. Angled welt pockets on either side. Bennington-type buttons with brass bezels and fine gilt brass buttons on the base of welts and at side plackets. Twill tape label inside side opening, with typed note: “1862 P-C3-pa-2".

Side openings with two pearl buttons on each side, conical on one side and mismatched flat ones on the other; buttonhole and no button on side placket. Widely spaced narrow pleats into the waistband in the rear and front. Side pockets under the front.

Set onto a slightly pointed waistband opening at each side. Diagonal welt pockets in the side front. Interior waistband with buttonholes for fastening onto shirt or waist.

Entirely hand-stitched larger boy’s trousers made of printed red pinstriped cotton. Straight legs. Closure with 4 bone buttons. Pockets in side seams. White China buttons on the waistband and buttonholes on the inner concealed waistband.

Entirely hand-stitched boy’s knee pants made of blue windowpane check cotton. Buttonholes in the waistband that opens each side. One diagonal welt pocket on the proper left. Leg openings and side seams are finished with red blanket-stitched scallops.

Entirely hand-stitched trousers made of lightweight white dimity. High rise, narrow fall, straight legs. Simple 4-hole bone buttons for braces, close fall. At the side are slits closed by a single decorative MOP button, that neither end in pockets nor give access. Unlined. This garment is for a fairly tall person.

Boy’s knee-length pants made of coarse plain-weave cotton. Waistband with 5 buttonholes front and back. 2 side openings each with a white China button. One tuck at the knee, released.

Entirely machine-stitched older boy’s knee pants made of heavy white pique cotton. Fullness pleated into the waistband. Welt pockets on either side. Buttonholes on the waist for the top. Opens on both sides. Two tucks above the hem.

Entirely hand-stitched trousers for a very tall man made of thin blue-striped seersucker gingham. Buttons are 4-hole bones. Narrow waistband, 3-button closure. Watch pocket, no side pockets but one angled, and curved slit pocket over the proper left back hip. Closes with a small self-covered button. 2 brace buttons in the back, and 4 in front. 2 smaller buttons close the waist at the center front but they are set on the inside. Pointed strap with brass buckle over gusset in the center back. Waist faced with fine white linen. Rather straight legs, only slightly shapely at the foot. 2 seams, and the side one swings well toward the front. No evidence of straps underfoot although there is a rough cut edge on the hem where a strap could have been cut off. No remains of anything on the corresponding side of the hem. Narrow hem secured with a thin white cotton tape. The very bottom edge of the hem is neatened with a row of back stitches. The hole appears calculated to present a sleek appearance.

Entirely hand-stitched pants made of deep navy tricot wool. The design consists of sky blue paired windowpane checks on wide dark blue checks, heavily filled. Slender legs with slightly flared foot. Button closure with 6 small black lacquered metal buttons. Larger buttons for pockets and braces. Square-flap pockets at each side. Watch pocket. No strap in the back, or evidence of one. A yellow card found in the pocket reads "250 PAIR ALL-WOOL PANTS! Former Price $3.50; reduced to $2 Newman, 169 Main St."

Entirely hand-stitched pants made of plaid or cross-check of grouped tan pinstripes in cotton warp MID, and wider blue ramie MID cross stripes. Speculated to be an Indian or perhaps Chinese import fabric. Long, narrow legs. Fairly high rise, with no evidence of straps. Wide fall with angled welt pockets in flaps beneath. Curved watch pocket. Bone buttons. Points in the back for braces. One small strap for buckle, the other seems not to have existed. No evidence of the use of laces.
