Event Series: Homeschool Day

Homeschool Day – 19th Century STEM

April 23 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

This guided tour for homeschool families explores the world of STEM – from simple machines to 19th-century currency, to ratios and math needed to change recipes in the kitchens. Students will use modern day methods to solve 19th-century problems.

Groups will rotate through a series of 7 stations that have your kiddos:

  • Watch colors change before your eyes as you learn the science behind dyeing wool to make colorful yarn
  • De-code a message in the telegraph office
  • Practice math skills in a historic kitchen and manipulate a historic “receipt”
  • Move your body using 19th century calisthenics routine to understand how specific movements became a popular health trend
  • Experience how items were bought and traded in a 19th century general store using 19th century money
  • Learn how women in the 19th century practiced science, and try your botanical art skills alongside a visiting artist from the M.A.G.
