Brooch of Bohemian garnets. Oval shaped, rose-cut garnets large and small creating the edge. Tiny pieces of metal hold stones in. There is a center flower; the petals formed by faceted pear-cut garnets. Two faceted oval garnets are on each side of the center flower. Center stones open in the back are all bezel set. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin extends beyond the pin. Setting may be vermeil. Brownish-red garnets are likely Almondine garnets. They are faceted on the back to allow for light to pass. Fashionable from 1860-1890s. 1 3/4" long. 15/16" wide

Roughly oval-shaped brass has a "spot hammered" surface. The circle of brass surrounding the amethyst- colored rhinestone appears to have silver gilt over it giving it a slightly different color. Two triangular cutouts are filled by the filigree wire work. There are 3 half-domes, brass, set in dotted circles on each side. The faceted rhinestone is bezel set with two leaves framing it top and bottom. There is a round hinge and c clasp. This pin reflects Arts and Crafts style. 1 9/16" long. 1 1/16" wide

Oval brooch made of cobalt enamel over unknown metal. Karat gold twisted, welded wire forms the edge both on the outside and inside of the oval. A large karat gold leaf, with repoussé designs is welded to the oval as well as a twisted gold wire, perhaps to represent a grape leaf. Three coral beads are attached to wires in the center. There is a solid gold backing to the oval. Round hinge and early safety clasp may have been repaired. There is significant damage to 1/4 of the blue enameling. The pin stem extends significantly beyond the clasp and the pin. 1 3/8" long. 1" wide.

Handmade filigree brooch, oval shape with a large Mother of Pearl in the center held with scalloped wire. Bordered by 16 rose cut garnets (or glass) each set in a milgrain collet. Tiny metal balls each encircled by wire rope are set between each stone. This border is edged with rope wire on each side. Lovely filigree scrolls and balls are made with oxidized wire. While not marked, this brooch is likely made with 800 silver. Tube hinge, c clasp and long, thick pin stem extending beyond the clasp. 1 15/16" long 1 9/16" wide

Brass fan-shaped pin. Repetitive forms of arches, boxes with holes, and tiny cylinders. Seven tiny garnets are bezel set in an arch. A large-faceted rhinestone is set in a rose gold cup with many prongs. To each side is a silver (sterling?) leaf carefully engraved and textured. Below the rhinestone is a rose gold form--like wings. Round hinge, c clasp and a small loop, probably for a lost safety chain/pin. 1 3/4" long. This is an Aesthetic Era pin. 1 3/16" wide

Small mourning pin with an oval piece of bezel set black jet. It has a gold leaf with seed pearl set in the center. Oval is surrounded by gold balls and 2 black jet leaves on each side of a diamond shaped piece of black jet all bezel set. This motif is equal distant around the oval. Oval pin with copper frame. A wide band of black enamel surrounds an oval cabochon stone. It is likely white moonstone. The stone shows some pits and scratches. It also demonstrates a chatoyant effect; a shimmering band of light that moves across the stone. The stone is held on the back by a band of metal that is somewhat loose. There are conchoidal fractures along part of the edge (smooth, curved surface). Tube hinge, c clasp and thick pin stem extends beyond the clasp. 1 11/16"long 1 1/16" wide

Silver metal, possibly sterling in an elaborate design of leaves and stems. Top section has three Mother of Pearls set in bezel settings and two small-faceted glass rhinestones of pink-red. Second section has one bezel set Mother of Pearl and five pink-red faceted rhinestones. The last section has a teardrop-shaped bezel set Mother of Pearl. This is a Renaissance Revival piece made in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Tube hinge and c clasp, the pin extends beyond the main design. Back of pin is elaborately engraved. 2" long 1 1/2" wide.

Black glass mourning brooch. Appears to be a belt buckle with 2 separate heart-shaped pieces that were converted to a brooch. The pieces were glued to metal plates that were attached to belt fasteners. The plates were soldered together and a tube hinge and c clasp attached. The surface of each heart shaped piece is intricately textured with pyramidal forms, small domes, carved leaves and stippled with lines. Flat areas are faceted. 2 7/8" long 1 1/2" wide

Wires appear to have been sprayed or painted with matte black paint. Some has worn off the back. Back shows construction and structure of pin. Large Victorian love knot pin with 2 coral pieces. One-piece, gold-filled wire that starts very thin expands to quite thick and then becomes thin again. The thickest part of the wire is stamped with some designs while other parts of the wire remain plain. At each end, the thinner wire secures a piece of orange coral. On the back there is a round hinge and safety clasp each on a pad, indicating they replaced the originals. Early safety clasp. 1 3/4" long. 3/4" wide.

Form of holloware, probably gold-filled metal. Tiny rectangular pin with curved ends. Edges are smooth and outside border on the top looks like a row of little peaks ^^^^ . The background looks like tiny x's like a textile. A scalloped design, made by gold lines and black enamel (taille d'épargne) forms a border around a central raised rectangle flanked by two pieces of metal shaped like a c. The top of the small central rectangle has more taille d'épargne enameling in the form of a star. On the back is a flat covering. Oval pin of gold filled metal. Central oval plate has engraved foliage design with negative spaces textured. A rope-like edge surrounds it. It appears to be stamped. The wide edge of this piece consists of a Greek key in black enamel with negative spaces again stippled to create texture. There are a few areas of enamel missing, but is largely intact. Back cover plate to reinforce front surface. Tube hinge, c clasp , heavy pin that extends beyond the pin. Brooch marked "sterling front" on back of piece. Cast silver form of a central face of a woman, surrounded by artfully flowing locks of hair. There are 5 flowers, of 5 petals each scattered at the edges. There is a plate on the back with 2 punched stars, top and bottom, that open up to the cast front. There is a round hinge and c-clasp. Sheets of rolled gold ( gold filled). The top sheet is stamped out in the basic contours of this rectangular pin. A flat sheet was attached on the back. The primary decorative element is a tiny, round cabochon moonstone, bezel set, in the center with a tiny rope detail around the top. Rolled gold holloware pin. Rectangular base with architectural elements of surrounding parts of polished gold, other parts "pebbled" for texture. A diamond shaped raised plaque in the center has a 3 lobed engraved leaf with pebbled texture surrounding. On back is a plate covering the stamped out front. Diamond- shaped pin made of two layers of brass. The first layer is an open frame with second layer soldered to it with ribbons of brass curves typical of Art Nouveau. The ribbons have parallel lines, which accentuate the curves typical of this style. A diamond-shaped faceted amethyst or glass stone is prong set along with a seed pearl below the lavender stone. The natural pearl dangle was added by donor after purchase, but is typical of Art Nouveau design. 1 3/4" long. 3/4" wide

Zeeuwse Knoop (Zeeland button), a traditional part of the costume of men from the Zeeland Islands in SW Netherlands. Pin is sterling silver. A central ball sits in 2 layers of open wire work surrounded by a ring of smaller balls each on 1 layer of round wire work. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin stem extends beyond the pin. On clasp are 2 sets of hallmarks, a sword indicating date made and letters GDL. Women later began wearing these brooches. 7/8" diameter

Appears to be sandwiched on top of a white glass oval set into a collet gold-plated metal encircled with a tightly twisted thin wire of gold-filled wire and a wide gold-filled twisted band with finished edges. Oval pin, in shape of a dome, likely of brass. In the center is a large deep red cabochon (glass?) in a collet setting. Wrapped around the cabochon are multiple different chains, large and tiny, primarily twisted. Around the bottom edge of dome is large round link and smaller 1/2 link soldered to surface, finished off with a twisted chain and two chains hang down and join in center. From center hangs a teardrop-shaped dangle, in gilt gold. It is possible the entire pin was once covered in gilt gold but has worn off. This pin is in the shape of a Greek cross with equal length arms or a St. George's cross. The plate is likely Sterling silver but there are no markings. The silver is elaborately engraved. Five agate cabochons in shades of cream, rust and brown, some banded some not, are bezel set. In between, are four 1/2 pearls, also bezel set along with 4 bezel set tiny pink/red stones. Back of the frame has been hand cut with openings for the agates. There is a tube hinge and a c clasp. 1 3/4" long. 1 11/16" wide

Oval pin with beveled edge. Unknown if this is real tortoise shell from a Hawksbill turtle or faux tortoise shell (celluloid). Translucent, mottled surface of browns and pale yellow. On top is a carved-out oak leaf. In center of leaf is a small gold pin that goes through to the back. Tube hinge and a modern safety clasp that is from earlier than turn of the century. Handmade brass pin, silver-tone and possibly rolled gold or gilded metal findings. Six round clear rhinestones are prong-held as is the red rhinestone. These are attached by a ring to a locket made up of a central circular plate with guilloche white enamel with a hand painted pink rose and green leaves. There is a decorative border made of a "ribbon" of gold millegrain edge soldered in a repeating pattern. Setting may be low k gold or gold filled. Some minor scratches on glass. A flower with 2 leaves and stem is centered with a tiny seed pearl. The back setting of brooch is open with a tiny ring on the bottom for a small chain or pin for security. Carved and cut Mother of Pearl pin in shape of a battle axe with a laurel wreath around the bottom of the shaft. The wreath and portions of the axe are finely carved for decoration to depict the leaves. Three brass pins show on the front. One attaches the plate that the tube hinge is attached to, the middle brass pin is decorative, and the last brass pin attaches the strip of brass metal that is made into a c clasp. The pin stem is very long and extends beyond the c clasp and pin. 2 1/8" long 1 1/8" wide

Reverse intaglio brooch made from carved Intaglio (reverse) from rock crystal or glass. It is bezel set into a decorative gold filled frame. Frame features design of leaves, domes, tiny pink and clear rhinestones, and 3 large clear rhinestones (clear rhinestone set in as a repair by donor). The reverse carved Intaglio is an image of Eros blowing bubbles. Bubbles represent the fragility and ephemeral quality of life itself. Tube hinge and c-clasp. Initials "R.S." carved into intaglio. Evidence of other pins featuring this same image having been made in (then) Czechoslovakia, after 1917. 1 3/4" long 1 1/2 " wide
