Brooch of Bohemian garnets. Oval shaped, rose-cut garnets large and small creating the edge. Tiny pieces of metal hold stones in. There is a center flower; the petals formed by faceted pear-cut garnets. Two faceted oval garnets are on each side of the center flower. Center stones open in the back are all bezel set. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin extends beyond the pin. Setting may be vermeil. Brownish-red garnets are likely Almondine garnets. They are faceted on the back to allow for light to pass. Fashionable from 1860-1890s. 1 3/4" long. 15/16" wide

Roughly oval-shaped brass has a "spot hammered" surface. The circle of brass surrounding the amethyst- colored rhinestone appears to have silver gilt over it giving it a slightly different color. Two triangular cutouts are filled by the filigree wire work. There are 3 half-domes, brass, set in dotted circles on each side. The faceted rhinestone is bezel set with two leaves framing it top and bottom. There is a round hinge and c clasp. This pin reflects Arts and Crafts style. 1 9/16" long. 1 1/16" wide

Oval brooch made of cobalt enamel over unknown metal. Karat gold twisted, welded wire forms the edge both on the outside and inside of the oval. A large karat gold leaf, with repoussé designs is welded to the oval as well as a twisted gold wire, perhaps to represent a grape leaf. Three coral beads are attached to wires in the center. There is a solid gold backing to the oval. Round hinge and early safety clasp may have been repaired. There is significant damage to 1/4 of the blue enameling. The pin stem extends significantly beyond the clasp and the pin. 1 3/8" long. 1" wide.

Rectangular holloware with some sections hammered to create texture and with an engraved line. In the center is a red coral, high relief cameo of a woman. Heavily worn oval held in place by thick prongs. The back is enclosed. Tube hinge and c clasp, pin stem extends beyond the c clasp. 1 7/16" long 7/8" wide

Handmade filigree brooch, oval shape with a large Mother of Pearl in the center held with scalloped wire. Bordered by 16 rose cut garnets (or glass) each set in a milgrain collet. Tiny metal balls each encircled by wire rope are set between each stone. This border is edged with rope wire on each side. Lovely filigree scrolls and balls are made with oxidized wire. While not marked, this brooch is likely made with 800 silver. Tube hinge, c clasp and long, thick pin stem extending beyond the clasp. 1 15/16" long 1 9/16" wide

Brass fan-shaped pin. Repetitive forms of arches, boxes with holes, and tiny cylinders. Seven tiny garnets are bezel set in an arch. A large-faceted rhinestone is set in a rose gold cup with many prongs. To each side is a silver (sterling?) leaf carefully engraved and textured. Below the rhinestone is a rose gold form--like wings. Round hinge, c clasp and a small loop, probably for a lost safety chain/pin. 1 3/4" long. This is an Aesthetic Era pin. 1 3/16" wide

Banded Agate pin is translucent, in orange, red and brown bands. It is bezel set in likely Sterling silver, with a finely made "rope" around the edge. Tube hinge and c clasp. Pin stem extends beyond the pin. The back is open to allow light to pass. 1 1/2 " long 1 1/4" wide

Small mourning pin with an oval piece of bezel set black jet. It has a gold leaf with seed pearl set in the center. Oval is surrounded by gold balls and 2 black jet leaves on each side of a diamond shaped piece of black jet all bezel set. This motif is equal distant around the oval. On back is a tube hinge, c clasp, and pin stem extends beyond the clasp, along with a small ring for chain or pin for safety. 1" long 1 1/4" wide

Silver pin marked "800" (i.e. 800 Silver). Oval made using cannetille work with a center stone very likely Chrysoprase; a green variety of chalcedony. This sort of work was very popular in the 1820-30s. Long tube hinge, and early form of the safety clasp. Thick pin. Hand-made pin, reflecting "peasant" or "folk" jewelry. 1 3/4" wide 1 3/16" long

Mourning brooch carved from bog oak with tulips and flowers. Not gutta percha (rub test undertaken by donor). C-clasp pin and tube hinge attached to back. 2 " long 2" wide

Oval pin with copper frame. A wide band of black enamel surrounds an oval cabochon stone. It is likely white moonstone. The stone shows some pits and scratches. It also demonstrates a chatoyant effect; a shimmering band of light that moves across the stone. The stone is held on the back by a band of metal that is somewhat loose. There are conchoidal fractures along part of the edge (smooth, curved surface). Tube hinge, c clasp and thick pin stem extends beyond the clasp. 1 11/16"long 1 1/16" wide

Oval pin made of silver metal with copper and gold elements. The silver metal surface is engraved with leaves and scrolls. There are copper (or pink gold) colored flowers and one leaf with (yellow or green gold) green or yellow coloring. Pin has scalloped edges with balls. Tube hinge and c clasp. May be sterling but is unmarked. This is an Aesthetic Era pin. 1 5/8" long 1 1/8" wide

Round pin is likely solid gold. The surface and "handle" is covered with stippling. The 2 triangular shaped decorative areas have longer foliate type patterns engraved into it. On the back there is a tube hinge, c clasp and the pin stem extends beyond the pin edge. There is also a tiny ring, typically for a chain and safety pin for additional security. 1" diameter

Silver metal, possibly sterling in an elaborate design of leaves and stems. Top section has three Mother of Pearls set in bezel settings and two small-faceted glass rhinestones of pink-red. Second section has one bezel set Mother of Pearl and five pink-red faceted rhinestones. The last section has a teardrop-shaped bezel set Mother of Pearl. This is a Renaissance Revival piece made in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Tube hinge and c clasp, the pin extends beyond the main design. Back of pin is elaborately engraved. 2" long 1 1/2" wide.

Round, Sterling brooch features 7 round chatoyant, probably abalone shell gems, in round disks of sterling and outlined in "rope" held in with scalloped prongs. Tube hinge and thick, elaborate c clasp. 1 5/8" diameter

Oval gold-filled coral brooch. Piece of coral is centered in holloware that is decoratively ridged with a decorative edge. Tube hinge and c clasp. Likely a memento of a trip to Italy. 1 1/8" long. 7/8" wide

Black glass mourning brooch. Appears to be a belt buckle with 2 separate heart-shaped pieces that were converted to a brooch. The pieces were glued to metal plates that were attached to belt fasteners. The plates were soldered together and a tube hinge and c clasp attached. The surface of each heart shaped piece is intricately textured with pyramidal forms, small domes, carved leaves and stippled with lines. Flat areas are faceted. 2 7/8" long 1 1/2" wide

Brooch in the Biedermeier style. Oval shaped and simply ornamented with intertwined rings above and foliage below a central oval onyx stone with a flower engraving in gold. Tube hinge, thick pin and c clasp. Pin stem extends beyond the clasp and pin. 1 1/8" long. 1 1/2" wide.

Pin likely made with solid gold wire. The eight seed pearls are prong set as is the central-faceted red gem which is likely a garnet. Facets are finely done. Wires appear to have been sprayed or painted with matte black paint. Some has worn off the back. Back shows construction and structure of pin. There is a tiny loop, probably for a chain and pin for added security. There is a tube hinge and c clasp. 1 3/16" long. 1 3/8" wide.

Tiny round pin, may be silver. It has a leaf and rope (vine) motif around it, perhaps washed in gold. There is a white chalcedony disc with a tiny orange coral branch held up by a gold band and diamond-shaped pieces of foil. Tube hinge and c clasp. Likely made in Italy. 11/16" diameter

Mourning brooch of black glass (jet). Geometric pieces are collet set and attached to each other by small round metal balls. May be gold plated. Tube hinge and c clasp that has been repaired. 1 3/16" long 1 3/8" wide

Matte black circular pin of unknown material. Circlet of six 3-leafed plant or flower. Each is attached to a round cup with glue and all attached to round wire. Round hinge, c clasp, and pin stem extends beyond the c clasp. Under the loupe the surface is grainy and pitted. Could be painted wood. Likely a mourning pin. 1" diameter

Large Victorian love knot pin with 2 coral pieces. One-piece, gold-filled wire that starts very thin expands to quite thick and then becomes thin again. The thickest part of the wire is stamped with some designs while other parts of the wire remain plain. At each end, the thinner wire secures a piece of orange coral. On the back there is a round hinge and safety clasp each on a pad, indicating they replaced the originals. Early safety clasp. 1 3/4" long. 3/4" wide.

Form of holloware, probably gold-filled metal. Tiny rectangular pin with curved ends. Edges are smooth and outside border on the top looks like a row of little peaks ^^^^ . The background looks like tiny x's like a textile. A scalloped design, made by gold lines and black enamel (taille d'épargne) forms a border around a central raised rectangle flanked by two pieces of metal shaped like a c. The top of the small central rectangle has more taille d'épargne enameling in the form of a star. On the back is a flat covering. Tube hinge, safety clasp and pin stem extends beyond the clasp. 1/2" long 7/8" wide

Oval pin of gold filled metal. Central oval plate has engraved foliage design with negative spaces textured. A rope-like edge surrounds it. It appears to be stamped. The wide edge of this piece consists of a Greek key in black enamel with negative spaces again stippled to create texture. There are a few areas of enamel missing, but is largely intact. Back cover plate to reinforce front surface. Tube hinge, c clasp , heavy pin that extends beyond the pin. There is a small hook on the bottom, which may have held a dangle or safety chain. 1 1/4" long. 15/16" wide

Curvy ribbons surround a faceted amethyst, set collet style. Two leaves are covered in green enamel and 2 curves are lined with natural seed pearls. Likely rolled gold. Round hinge and wide c clasp. Pin stem sticks out beyond the pin. 1" long. This is an Art Nouveau pin. 11/16" wide

Brooch marked "sterling front" on back of piece. Cast silver form of a central face of a woman, surrounded by artfully flowing locks of hair. There are 5 flowers, of 5 petals each scattered at the edges. There is a plate on the back with 2 punched stars, top and bottom, that open up to the cast front. There is a round hinge and c-clasp. The pin stem is "fat" and extends beyond the c-clasp. "A Kendrick" is scratched on the back in a script - a past owner (?). This is an Art Nouveau pin. 2 1/4" long 1 3/4" wide

Sheets of rolled gold ( gold filled). The top sheet is stamped out in the basic contours of this rectangular pin. A flat sheet was attached on the back. The primary decorative element is a tiny, round cabochon moonstone, bezel set, in the center with a tiny rope detail around the top. There are some decorative cross hatchings in the corners which may be hand engraved. Hand made tube hinge on back, c clasp, pin stem extends beyond edge of pin. 15/16" long. 5/8" wide

Rolled gold holloware pin. Rectangular base with architectural elements of surrounding parts of polished gold, other parts "pebbled" for texture. A diamond shaped raised plaque in the center has a 3 lobed engraved leaf with pebbled texture surrounding. On back is a plate covering the stamped out front. There is a tube hinge, C clasp and long pin that extends beyond the clasp and pin. There is a small ring soldered to the bottom of the pin. 1 3/4" long. 15/16" wide.

Diamond- shaped pin made of two layers of brass. The first layer is an open frame with second layer soldered to it with ribbons of brass curves typical of Art Nouveau. The ribbons have parallel lines, which accentuate the curves typical of this style. A diamond-shaped faceted amethyst or glass stone is prong set along with a seed pearl below the lavender stone. The natural pearl dangle was added by donor after purchase, but is typical of Art Nouveau design. 1 3/4" long. 3/4" wide

Zeeuwse Knoop (Zeeland button), a traditional part of the costume of men from the Zeeland Islands in SW Netherlands. Pin is sterling silver. A central ball sits in 2 layers of open wire work surrounded by a ring of smaller balls each on 1 layer of round wire work. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin stem extends beyond the pin. On clasp are 2 sets of hallmarks, a sword indicating date made and letters GDL. Women later began wearing these brooches. 7/8" diameter

Blue glass oval pin. Cobalt blue glass oval with a beveled edge. Appears to be sandwiched on top of a white glass oval set into a collet gold-plated metal encircled with a tightly twisted thin wire of gold-filled wire and a wide gold-filled twisted band with finished edges. Painted on the blue glass is a castle and lawn with a tree outlined with gold paint. Tube hinge and safety clasp. 1 7/8" long 1 5/8" wide

Oval pin, in shape of a dome, likely of brass. In the center is a large deep red cabochon (glass?) in a collet setting. Wrapped around the cabochon are multiple different chains, large and tiny, primarily twisted. Around the bottom edge of dome is large round link and smaller 1/2 link soldered to surface, finished off with a twisted chain and two chains hang down and join in center. From center hangs a teardrop-shaped dangle, in gilt gold. It is possible the entire pin was once covered in gilt gold but has worn off. Tube hinge and safety catch, likely a replacement. 1 3/16" long. 15/16" wide

Mourning brooch made of tear-shaped French jet (glass) set around an oval of jet glass. There is a seed pearl set in a leaf in the center. Bezel set in 10-14 k gold with gold balls between each tear. There is a small ring for using brooch as a pendant. Tube hinge and c clasp. 1 5/16 " long 1 1/8" wide

This pin is in the shape of a Greek cross with equal length arms or a St. George's cross. The plate is likely Sterling silver but there are no markings. The silver is elaborately engraved. Five agate cabochons in shades of cream, rust and brown, some banded some not, are bezel set. In between, are four 1/2 pearls, also bezel set along with 4 bezel set tiny pink/red stones. Back of the frame has been hand cut with openings for the agates. There is a tube hinge and a c clasp. 1 3/4" long. 1 11/16" wide

Oval pin with beveled edge. Unknown if this is real tortoise shell from a Hawksbill turtle or faux tortoise shell (celluloid). Translucent, mottled surface of browns and pale yellow. On top is a carved-out oak leaf. In center of leaf is a small gold pin that goes through to the back. Tube hinge and a modern safety clasp that is from earlier than turn of the century. Likely a replacement as it is set on top of the plate of what may have been a c clasp. The pin extends beyond the clasp. 2 3/16" long 1 3/4" wide

Edwardian style pin generally oval in shape. Delicate filigree, centered with clear-faceted rhinestone surrounded by 4 triangular-faceted blue rhinestones. Pin has 1/16" wide edge with filigree. Could be rhodium plated. Round hinge and safety clasp 1 11/16" long 3/4" wide

Handmade brass pin, silver-tone and possibly rolled gold or gilded metal findings. Six round clear rhinestones are prong-held as is the red rhinestone. Nine half round turquoise (real?) are bezel set with tiny discs of rolled gold between them. One turquoise stone is missing. There is a vaguely flower-like gold piece at the top of the silver circle with a clear rhinestone attached. Tube hinge. C clasp and long pin stem which extends beyond the clasp. This is an Aesthetic Era pin. 1 13/16" long. 15/16" wide

Brooch of burnished or bloomed gold in American technique. The jewelry makers used polished engraving of two tulips with leaves. On the back is a cover with tube hinge and a long pin stem that extends significantly beyond the c clasp. There's also a small round hoop which probably was attached to a chain and a pin as a safety measure 1 1/8 " long 7/8 " wide

Pin of interlocking, swirling lines in brass with center glass stone in blue with foiled markings. The glass is rough, not smooth, may be art glass or "End of Day" glass. The stone is prong set. Setting is soldered together by hand with brass pieces that were stamped out in a factory. Round hinge and c clasp. This is an Art Nouveau pin. 1 3/4" long. 7/8" wide

Tiny pin, gold-filled metal, probably hand stamped to create designs. The metal "rope" is all one piece, twisted around the coral to hold it into place. Tube hinge and c clasp. The pin stem extends beyond the pin. 1" long. 1/2" wide.

Large rectangular pin made of red jasper surrounded by a thin decorative rim made of plated gold metal. Tube hinge, c clasp and very long pin stem extends beyond the pin. 1 7/8" long. 1 1/2 " wide

Bar pin brooch featuring three-faceted smoky quartz set into sterling silver setting. Large tube hinge on back, with heavy pin which extends way beyond clasp, which is also a large heavy c-clasp. Dark color could be used for half-mourning or remembrance. 2" long 3/4" wide

Round pin with bezel-set, rose-cut garnets. Seven large garnets with six tiny garnets set in diamond-shape bezels and six-prong set garnets connecting the outer ring of large garnets. The metal is likely brass, perhaps once gold-washed. Stones are visible through the setting. Tube hinge and newer replacement clasp. 7/8" diameter

Victorian garnet pin with both flat-cut and rose-cut garnets. It is in the shape of a bow with a center flower cluster. It likely had a gold wash over base metal or is gold filled. There is a tube hinge with an interesting safety clasp that opens at the top. An older design. Pin stem extends beyond the pin. There are holes in the back for light to shine through. 2" long 3/4" wide

Antique Czech (unmarked) amber stone and rhinestone pin. Gilt brass filigree brooch. There is an oval, faceted Amber stone in center with 4 small round faceted rhinestones, laurel wreaths, and stylized lotus buds. Round hinge, and safety clasp. 2" wide 1 3/8" long Rendered in Art Nouveau style.

Victorian mourning pin with black enamel in a gold metal engraved circle centered with a gold ball. Perhaps solid gold or rolled gold back. Tube hinge and c clasp 3/4" diameter

Top of pin is a yellow enameled bow with gold edges. On back is a round hinge and early safety clasp and pin stem extends beyond the clasp. Stamped on back is 10k R.G.P. (rolled gold plate). The bow is attached by 2 rings to 2 5/8" long pieces of rolled gold plate with lines decorating the surfaces. These are attached by a ring to a locket made up of a central circular plate with guilloche white enamel with a hand painted pink rose and green leaves. This is surrounded by wire depicting a 4 leaf clover. On the back is a glass cover with a picture of a soldier holding a gun and wearing a hat. 2 1/2" long 1 1/8" wide

Round photo pin made of low karat gold or gold-filled metal. A photo of a young woman shows subtle color on the cheeks and lips. Two wires have been twisted together to form a frame around the picture. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin stem extends beyond the clasp. Metal backing plate is held onto the frame by metal tabs. 15/16" diameter

Tiny Victorian coral pin. Roughly oval in shape, consists of a thick gold (10k) gold wire that forms the outside frame and then curls around the piece of orange coral. Wire is stamped on the top and bottom rims of the outer frame. Hand made. Tube hinge and c clasp. 9/16" long. 3/4" wide.

Sterling silver brooch that is not quite round. Arts & Crafts stylized image of a deer with hammered edge. Hand made. Round hinge and safety clasp. 1 1/2" diameter

Traditional Norwegian jewelry called a sølje or solje. It is traditionally sterling silver with cup-shaped disks hanging from the pin. Made of filigree wire with rope edging. The outside edge is a scallop. The gold cups hang from wire loops. Tube hinge, c clasp and pin stem extends beyond the c clasp. There is a plaque with hallmarks but they are illegible. 1 3/8" diameter

Mourning pin with metal base that may have been gold-plated over silver metal. It is engraved with some evidence of black enameling taille d'épargne, much of it worn off. Large oval glass held in a decorative bezel with a row of gilded tiny beaded band and a row of faux seed pearls. Back of pin shows silver over copper. Rivet holding the larger pearl is missing. Round hinge and safety clasp. 1 3/16" long 1 1/2" wide

Mourning brooch of black glass or French Jet oval is beveled at the edge and bezel set with a millegrain edge. There is a decorative border made of a "ribbon" of gold millegrain edge soldered in a repeating pattern. Setting may be low k gold or gold filled. Some minor scratches on glass. A flower with 2 leaves and stem is centered with a tiny seed pearl. The back setting of brooch is open with a tiny ring on the bottom for a small chain or pin for security. Tube hinge and older safety clasp repair soldered on. 1 3/8" long 1 1/8" wide

Small mourning brooch of matted glass in shape of a heart. Chip present in upper left-hand quadrant. Set into brass setting with small tri-foils bent over the edge to keep it in place. Pin in back is a simple c-clasp with one-piece wire pin. 3/4" long 1/2" wide

Carved and cut Mother of Pearl pin in shape of a battle axe with a laurel wreath around the bottom of the shaft. The wreath and portions of the axe are finely carved for decoration to depict the leaves. Three brass pins show on the front. One attaches the plate that the tube hinge is attached to, the middle brass pin is decorative, and the last brass pin attaches the strip of brass metal that is made into a c clasp. The pin stem is very long and extends beyond the c clasp and pin. 2 1/8" long 1 1/8" wide

Reverse intaglio brooch made from carved Intaglio (reverse) from rock crystal or glass. It is bezel set into a decorative gold filled frame. Frame features design of leaves, domes, tiny pink and clear rhinestones, and 3 large clear rhinestones (clear rhinestone set in as a repair by donor). The reverse carved Intaglio is an image of Eros blowing bubbles. Bubbles represent the fragility and ephemeral quality of life itself. Tube hinge and c-clasp. Initials "R.S." carved into intaglio. Evidence of other pins featuring this same image having been made in (then) Czechoslovakia, after 1917. 1 3/4" long 1 1/2 " wide
