Fullness in the body throughout, with the yoke extending into the center front button placket to the hem. Edges of the wrist cuffs, neckline, yoke, and center front placket are trimmed in tucked cotton edging frills. Carved MOP buttons for the closure.

The styling suggests it is a maternity garment. Entirely hand stitched golden tan thin silk —recycled (stitch marks remain, and it is pieced). Completely lined with browned lavender printed cotton. Long, narrow sleeves with slightly flared jockeys edged with pale green figured silk ribbon. Cuffs also finished with same ribbon. Self covered buttons of graduated size down the full length front opening, with corresponding buttonholes. Front has no waist; center back skirt is gathered onto bodice below a double casing for interior drawstrings (red cotton tapes). Proper left bodice underarm was fit with two top-stitched vertical tucks releasing fullness at waist level, one like it on the other side with the remains of stitching for the second tuck; the sleeves fit this armscye correctly. Standing collar closed with a hook and loop

Hand-stitched men’s dressing gown made of printed cotton. Steam-printed blue rainbow stripe alternated with a stripe of red and black coarse paisley cartouches. Lined with a different cheap printed cotton; wadded. High shawl collar. Angled slash pockets on either side. Gored skirt in the back. No fasteners or ties. Long, rather wide sleeves with turnback cuffs.

Entirely hand-stitched infant dress made of white linen; opens down the back. The selvedge forming the finish of the back opening and a finely butted seam down the center front; very fine handkerchief hem. Shoulder "straps" and elbow-length tubular sleeves with deep fold-back cuffs edged with narrow hand made lace and a delicate embroidered vine border above. In center front and back are rows of thread buttons worked on metal rings, in such a way as to be laced by a ribbon, cord or tape.

Infant long gown of plain weave cotton - rather heavy weight for along gown. Long body made form two panels, front and back, without any side gores. Long sleeves gathered at sleeve cap and wrist, which is finished with a strip or band of machine-embroidered tape, and a flounce of machine-embroidered fabric. Front and back have a scoop panel, not quite a yoke, which is trimmed in more machine-embroidered fabric in a flounced strip, and filled in by a panel of cotton pleated or tucked vertically. High round neckline with stand collar made form the same flounced fabric. CB closure of one bottom at back of neck, made form wood or celluloid or tonga nut. Almost entirely machine-stitched, save for the buttonhole. Some light stains, and side seam underarm has come undone.

Entirely hand-stitched infant long dress made of white window pane dimity. 4 box pleats down the front; tacked to restraining band inside the bodice. 4 gathering channels in the rear waist, one in the rear of the neck, with fine linen braid strings. 5” hem. Straight short sleeves. Dorset buttons on a triangular panel on the sleeve top. No evidence of a loop of tape or string to gather up the sleeve to the button.

Merely laid over dress, forming bodice and skirt which are gathered and stitched to back of waistband. Short straight raglan sleeves, curved to top with scalloped edges. Sheer cotton embroidered insertion and trim bands at the hem. Multiple drawstrings in neckline.

The neckline, sleeves, and hem have narrow embroidered edging. Drawstrings in front and back neckline.

Same insertion forms horizontal bands in F bodice between rows of extremely narrow tucks. 2 similar bands at hems; bodice, hem and sleeves edged with similar Ayreshire. Astounding quality of stitching.

Wide shallow scooped neckline with narrow hem forming casing in back. Fine PW linen tape drawstrings. Short raglan sleeves edged with tiny rikrak made of tape. 5” hem with a double row of rikrak insertion, edged with a .5” band of fabric. Triple row of insertion down sleeve top, between rows of extremely fine pin tucks. 18” center front neck hem to bottom edge.

Entirely hand-stitched infant dress made of white windowpane checked dimity. Gathered into neckline bound as a casing which has a fine linen flat braided tape drawstring all around. Waistline is formed by casing for 6 parallel drawstrings that tie in the back. Straight, short sleeves. Long skirt with 1.5” hem. 1/2” fine frills on neckline and sleeve edge and 1” above sleeve edge.

Bodice front has 4 bands of insertion placed top to bottom at alternating diagonals, formed of paired rows of tiny tape ‘ricrac’. Single row on either edge of waistband. Short, puffed sleeves with tiny drawstring casings in ends; winglike flaps reach around sleeves, tips closing over tops with now-lost button or another fastener. Tiny drawstring casings in neck. Facing of waistband forms casing for inserted ribbon drawstring. Skirt plain, fashionably gored at sides. Bottom has 6 rows of pin tucks on either side of hardanger-type embroidered sheer insertion; hem formed of small faced VanDyke's.

Fine linen drawstrings in the neckline front and back. Wide linen PW tape drawstrings in the back waist. Embroidered with cotton in a satin stitch and French knots creating a floral nosegay on the sleeves, bodice, and deep hem border.

Entirely hand-stitched long infant gown made of white cotton. Fairly high waist. Wide and full but short puffed sleeve topped with a pair of ‘petals’. Wide, square drawstring neckline bound and trimmed with Bucks lace edging which is also used to trim hem, petals and bound sleeve edges. Bodice eased and skirt gathered into lace insertion cased waistband. The lace is needle-run design on bullethole net. Same lace used to define a V with a crossbar on the bodice, and insertion band above deep hem.

Entirely hand-stitched infant’s long gown made of very fine cambric. Ayrshire-type eyelet embroidery and handmade Valenciennes lace insertions. The bodice has a V panel made of alternating bands of lace and embroidery, repeated in the tablier of the skirt between sections of narrow tucks. The two lower tucked sections have chevrons of lace insertion and little vertical bands in the hem. Deep band of narrow tucks above 2” hem. Embroidered robings on the skirt and the bodice going around the back of the neck. Embroidered frilled sleeves. Narrow lace edging on the neck. Drawstrings at both the neck and the waist.

Entirely hand stitched infant’s long dress made of cotton printed with mill-engraved pattern of minute stars. Tiny, very high waisted ‘bodice’ set into the body; gathered at bottom and at top has a casing for a twill cotton tape; similar casing and drawstring in back neck. The body is cut in one piece to the side back with an angled side corresponding to 2 CB pieces similarly angled where they join the front; a rather narrow and long skirt with tiny hem and no tucks. Narrow shoulder straps and short puffed sleeves with a casing near the bottom for a narrow picot edged white (?) silk ribbon drawstring.

Infant’s white cotton percale long dress, entirely hand stitched. High waistline, inset waistband of lace insertion that serves as a casing for a 1/2” ribbon tie in back. Lace insertion is also used in 2 rows above the hem, and to form a “V” in the bodice, where the bodice is gathered a little. Short sleeves with two puffs, the outer one having a single eyelet worked in its center. Drawstring in the neck ties in back.

Entirely machine-stitched infant long gown made of cotton broadcloth. Insert lace tape (machined) at hem, across neckline, and at cuffs. Neckline and cuffs are finished off with machine bobbin lace netting. Center back closure with buttons of MOP.

Entirely hand-stitched infant dress made of soft white cotton with tiny Leno block pattern and white cotton embroidered eyelet sprigs all over. High waist with two wide plain weave linen tape drawstrings in back; straight neckline with separate drawstrings in front and back; shoulder straps; short, puffed sleeves. Slim skirt opens entirely down the back. Delicate folded cobweb-muslin frill along all edges except neckline, also along outer 'ridge' of sleeve.

Entirely hand-stitched infant long gown made of fine white lawn, semi sheer; embroidered with Ayreshire style eyelet work. Fairly high waist made as a casing for a 1" silk ribbon, still present. The ribbon is now a pale cream color, with delicate brocade geometric design. The long, somewhat narrow skirt exhibits no seams except near the hem; apparently a seam was worked into both of the long lines of embroidery down each side front. The hem double-scalloped with eyelet borders and floral sprays; the bodice has a small floral motif with triangular center panel, and a field of eyelets. Edging across the neck, waist, and panel made of rows of French knots. Short raglan sleeves with triangular panel on top.

Entirely hand-stitched infant dress. The skirt is made from a printer handkerchief with a wavy vine border cut to shape and finished with blanket stitch, and polka-dot fields. Seems to have been a pink ground originally. The skirt is opened up through the back; gathered onto the base of a plain cotton bodice with a straight neckline and short raglan sleeves edged with some of the handkerchief border. Double drawstring in the waist and another around the whole neckline. This appears to have been reworked from a smaller, probably waistless dress.

Infant long gown of plain weave cotton, fine. Body of long gown is gathered to yoke in back, but in front a center front panel is smooth. Center front panel continues over shoulders into back of long gown. Hem of skirt is trimmed by three rows of tiny tucker - 7 tucks in each row. Deep hem facing of 3.75". Center front panel that continues into the back is made form 8 rows of vertical tucks, punctuated by vertical rows of machine-embordered cotton panels, of eyelet whitework - not quiet broderie anglaise. Long sleeves, also with tucks near cuff edge set into armscye with piping. Shaped sleeves and no gusset in underarm. High round neckline and edges of sleeves, and bordering the CF panel, are trimmed with machine-embroidered tape. Two small holes in back of long gown body. Most likely paired with the petticoat 2024.25.004a-b.

Infant long gown of fine white cotton dimity fabric - ribbing running vertically down long gown. Body of long gown is gathered at CF with vertical pleats or tucks, while back has a yoke made form the same dimity. High round neckline bound in dimity and trimmed with machine-woven bobbin lace. Long sleeves slightly gathered at sleeve/shoulder cap, and gathered at wrist with band of dimity cut on bias. Entirely machine-sewn, with closure at CB of ties.

Mostly hand-stitched infant long gown made of fine muslin cotton. The embroidered panels are store-bought and machine-embroidered.

Entirely machine-stitched 2-piece dress made of cotton. Long clothes and matching petticoat in cotton. Both containing rows of tucks and ruching in between the gathered strips. Petticoat (a) - has short rectangular 'bodice' without arm holes or straps. Back closure. Long Clothes (b) - has the center back closure of carved MOP buttons.

Mostly machine-stitched long clothes made of dimity check. Evidence of adaption of size of dress (neckline has a simple stitch to make neckline smaller, and hem is very deep with a slip stitch done by hand to change its size). Long sleeves are gathered to sleeve cap; drawstring at wrist. Cuffs and neckline, yoke of bodice, and the center front pleats are trimmed in machine-stitched eyelet lace. Machine-stitched diamond tape embellishing pleats. Buttons close in the center back.

Infant long gown of plain weave cotton. Almost entirely machine-sewn, with some hand-finishing. Gown has long sleeves, slightly curved. Yoke "bib" front and back, with back opening of two MOP button placket, and ties at neckline back. Collar, yoke/bib, sleeve caps, front of sleeve cuffs, and hem are trimmed in cotton machine-embroidery strips. Armsyces are pipped, while bib/yoke, sleeve cuff, and skirt have tucks machine-sewn in place.

Infant long gown of fine white cotton muslin. Long skirt is set into waistband of embroidered cotton. Bodice has bobbin lace insertion tape. Short sleeves with tucks and more embroidered fabric flounce. Neckline is a drawstring, which continues to the back and acts as CB closure ties. Entirely hand-stitched. A few light stains and holes. Lace in bodice is torn in places. Came with accompanying note, which reads: "Lucretia Harrington born July 30, 1831 in the Batavia-Pembroke area. This is her baby dress. IN march 28, 1855 she was married to Nathanial Hucker II. Note hand made."

Infant dress. V-shape. Eyelet lace insert in the bodice, short sleeves, tucks, and lace inserts in the skirt.

Mostly machine-stitched infant long gown and petticoat set made of cotton. There are machined tucks on the petticoat and skirt of the dress. There is hand-stitching on lace insertion however all the lace is machined-stitched. Long Gown (a) - bodice is a strip of cotton, starched still. There are ties in the back with ties and ribbon. Tightly gathered to the waistband which is hand-embroidered. The skirt is less full than the dress' skirt but does have generous machined tucks at the bottom 3rd of the skirt. Petticoat (b) - The patten on the skirt continues on the petticoat.

"Pine green ‘cashmere’, a fine twilled wool. Very fashionable color choice: “greenery-yallery.” Mostly machine stitched, hand finished. Pleated Watteau back, full-length pleats extend down the center front from beneath a narrow black velveteen rectangular yoke sewn on top of the pleats, front and back, secured with hooks and eyes in the front; standing collar, and deep matching cuffs with no opening (small hands!). Back bodice underlined with brown twilled cotton; the lining floats in the front and beneath the skirt to which it is attached in places; its upper CF closes tightly to the body with small black pearl buttons and the hem is stiffened with black velveteen. Wool front opens to the hip. Long, loose, tubular sleeves with high caps, set high on the shoulder, floating over narrow sleeve linings and gathered into the cuff. Stylish double side back seams bring fit close to ribs at the sides. Simple and plain but has all the elements of style. Once-matching (now yellowed) green grosgrain ribbon ties attached to side fronts. Small size.

Tea gown made of deep blue silk satin. The center front panel is made of printed silk with thistle print. Rainbow or ‘Roman’ stripe ribbons hang in groups of 4/3 at sides and sleeve ends. Back has a small gathering at the center back and train.

2-piece tea gown made of cotton. Robe (a) - is made of a hardy printed cotton, printed to look like silk chine / Ikat. Engageantes at sleeves of same fabric as skirt. Bodice closes with inner crocheted layer, and outer cotton layer. Underskirt (b) - made of pink cotton mull, in tiers of flounces.

Tea gown made of heavy turquoise velour. The close-fitted bodice is made to suggest a colonial open robe, with a pleated ivory surah panel in the center, beneath the laces. Black satin ribbon is present but the original lace was probably a matching silk cord. The Watteau back has a very long pleated train. Square neckline edged with machine-made ecru lace. Close-fitting elbow-length sleeves with "engageantes" of what appears to be handmade ecru silk lace.

Lady's tea gown made of either bronze printed silk faille or twill fabric. Light blue scrolling sprigs decorate the silk. Center front cross-over closure, with bodice portion of gown supported with stays across seams. Black dotted-Swiss overlay on skirt. Bodice is embroidered with black beading (speculated to be jet). Beading extended into applique at elbow, neckline, and hanging from black dotted-Swiss netting. Sleeves and skirt have portions that are a dusty magenta colored silk taffeta. Small train in back. Sleeves are very loose and have a slight puff at cap.

Entirely machine-stitched tea gown made of brown plaid silk that is speculated to be recycled from an 1860s dress. Princess seams at the bust to the hip. The skirt fits fairly close to the body with a large double box pleat from neck to hem, tacked down at the waist, and from there, it becomes a triple box pleat. Front opens to hip, conical black glass buttons; pocket in proper right side. Standing collar. Long, shaped sleeves that look narrow but this is for a small woman so they probably did not fit tightly. Long shoulder seam. Two side back seams extend from the armscye, but none from the shoulder seam. Brown silk grosgrain ribbon used for loose tie at waist, also as bow decoration at top and bottom of sleeve. Lined entirely with brown glazed cotton, the inside hem finished with a narrow band of heavy brown velveteen. No bones. Although the box pleat does not fan out or form draperies, it seems meant for a wide bustle. Seems designed to fit as a maternity dress.

Hand and machine stitched tea gown made of heavy black silk MID velvet with an elusive gray-bluish cast. Opens 3/4 way down the front with self-covered buttons. Standing collar. Fairly roomy, shaped sleeves, the ends with castellated tabs bound in silk. A pair of darts on either side front- no seam- for princess shaping. Lightly boned. Seams in the side back to the shoulder seam extending into a pair of box pleats descending from waist level. Giving fullness to the train. Two elastic bands keep the train from spreading too far. No other evidence of ties to adjust drapery. Petersham band inside sized to accommodate a pregnant body, and the seaming is also designed to do that. A piece added to the front under edge to allow bodice fit larger belly, with hooks and eyes.

Very fine quality white cotton (MID) lawn handkerchief with complex self stripe borders. In each corner is a swivel woven bird-in-flowering-branch pattern, made in 6 lengthwise sections, reversed in each corner. Very fine work. Very fine hem on 3 sides; the selvage has a coarse thread within a narrow edge intended to be turned under—but it was not. Along one border the owner’s name is embroidered in cursive, in heavy satin stitch: Sarah Lantz, with a little tulip in between, and a tiny cartwheel at either end. 18.5” x 17.5”

Two doll's handkerchiefs of pink cotton, edged with a very narrow off-white cotton lace.

Fine semi sheer linen square with rib borders of heavier threads. Extremely fine hems on 2 sides. SI stitched in gold silk, microscopically small, in 1 corner. Starched. Edged with 3/8” lace-- machine made. It would seem the kerchief is earlier than the lace which is perhaps c 1850.

White plain weave cotton; 1 3/4” red printed self border formed into hemstitched hem . Art-deco-like triangle design. Pentagraph print? “KP” cross stitched in brown silk, in lower left corner above hem. 17.25” x 17.5”

Fine white cotton, hand embroidered with white cotton. Floral spray in each corner. Round corners, triple-scalloped edge with florets and single flowers all around; wavy vine inner border. Stem, padded satin, and buttonhole stitches with needlelace filling in flowers, and fagotting in vine. 16 1/2” square.

In differing stages of wear, from soft and yellowed to crisp and white with guide lines for embroidery still evident. 12” x 12” 8) Fine linen with 1/2” hemstitched border, 2” drawn thread border inside. Marked in script, “F. B. Colony” 11.5” x 11.5”

Creamy (now) white silk handkerchief with white silk embroidered rose in one corner, apparently related to the Chinese embroidered shawls. 1.5” hemstitched border. Imprinted in script, “Sarah R. Colony.” It looks just like the one marked Emma Colony; #95.078) 17.5” x 18”

Red printed plain weave cotton. Full width of fabric (26.5”) with tiny hand stitched hems. Finely engraved cylinder print (not plate?) with narrow border on 4 sides of ribbon bearing the name “WELLINGTON” intertwined with floral garland. Field has neat rows of bow motif.20” long. [slide SWG60]

1) Machine embroidered fine linen, double scalloped border with dots and bellflowers, satin stitched. 12.5” x 12.5” 2) Fine organdy or pina with 1.5” border of handmade tape-like lace. 12” x 12” $50-65 not included in appraisal total.

Sheer linen [?] about 14” square. Deep hem is stitched with crude satin stitch forming scalloped border outline with leafy garlands draped around it, centered with single leaflets. The hem fabric is cut away along the scalloped outline to give a fancy shadowed border effect.

Man's handkerchief, polka dot border, ss White linen handkerchief with thicker threads forming border, printed with red polka dot band forming second border. Finely embroidered initials SS in brown silk. Unknown name.... about 20’” square.

MAN’S handkerchiefs, pr, red/white checks 1850-1875 Two plain weave cotton handkerchiefs, machine spun and woven [?] with two selvage sides, red checks on white ground, wide red striped borders. No initials. One is unhemmed, the other has fine hand stitched hems.

Handkerchief, blue print, uses of feathers "Small cotton handkerchief, hand hemmed. Cylinder printed in steam or china blue. The center vignette shows a variety of fowl in the barnyard. The perimeter features vignettes: a lady contemplating a display a feather beds in a bedding warehouse; a woman feeding chickens in the barnyard and another collecting eggs; children playing shuttlecock; a mother and daughter wearing “Down for dress”; a plumed bicorne hat; quill pencils and pens; bakers using “eggs for pastry glaze”; a couple purchasing fowl at the butcher shop and another herding their geese. Purchased in a modern red painted frame, resting on what appears to be acid free board. About 12” x 14” - cut from a series, no doubt."

Hankie, deep limerick border. Linen circle with deep squared border of Limerick lace - tamboured, darned and decorative fills. Scattering of flowers and Alencon-like motifs.

Doll's handkerchief of sheer off-white cotton muslin, starched. Selvage on one side, and hand-sewn hems on the other three of differing widths.

Fine linen handkerchief with white satin stitch embroidery; doubly scalloped border with an inner scalloped border; eyelet bouquets in each corner. "Attached inked note reads: ”Hank made by Mother about 1852.” That was Ellen Elizabeth Gates Page, married 1857? See also Nos. 97.179-96.172."

2 pieces of a handkerchief made of very fine linen, with an impossibly minute hemstitched edge.

1) Girl’s dress hat made of light pink rep smocked into a gathered center atop a pillbox form, and gathered along a softly rolled brim covered with black velvet, topped with a band of brown fur. A knot of black velvet ribbon streamers attached at the center; small cluster off silk roses at one side. White silk lining, narrow white elastic chin strap. 2) Cardboard box and lid. The lid bears a red printed label from Dives, Pomeroy & Stewart of Reading, PA. The Great Department Store. The base has a large printed paper label reading CHILDREN’S HEADWEAR.

Infant’s hat made of pressed paper covered with apple green silk velvet; the large, low oval crown has radiating fluted form; narrow rolled brim; hatband is narrow strip of cardboard covered with brown silk folded lengthwise to form a protruding ledge effect. Green and brown velvet ribbon double bow with a crystal bead in the center, and a crystal bead dangle on each hanging end. Brown silk covered flat button in the center top. Lined with off white cotton, green stamped logo, that appears to read “USA.” Gummed shop sticker still in place. Elastic ties, one still attached to original cotton flap, presently tie close underneath in a bow.

Girl's hat made of medium coarse straw braid. Rounded crown with wide brim with wired edge. Rim finished with heavy black velvet ribbon worked into reverse box pleats; more ribbon is laid across the top of the hat from side to side, and again at a 90 degree angle. At the crossing is a flat bow and a couple of threads suggesting that there was more bow or something at the center top. The hat band is a waving band of straw braid bordering light blue horsehair braid. Matching ribbon ties, and an elastic cord. Buckram facing on the inside. PW silk ribbon ties, and an elastic cord.

Speculated boy's hat made of narrow straw braids; tall straight crown with narrow upturned brim bound with blue silk ribbon.

A white and green had with bow, lace, and feathers.

Gentleman's starw boater of pleated and folded straw. Shape is relatively oval and not circular. Brim has four layers of straw. Outside of straw hat is a ribbon of mix silk and wool. Silk warp with wool weft ribbon, approx. 2.5" wide, with triple strip[e in middle of center gold/orange line, with two small white lines flanking it. Rest of ribbon is brown. Ribbon sewn into bow on left side of hat. Inside of hat has leather sweatband, hand-sewn to brim. Cotton tarlatan wrapped around inside of crown. Top of hat has paper lining made to look like fiugred/damask silk. Stamp in middle, but lacks brand name. Size is "7" on a tag.

Doll's hat of off-white cotton with machine-sewn embroidery and eyelets and off-white dotted swiss, interfaced with heavily starched cotton. Crown is made as a circle of the embroidered cotton (interfaced) with a bias-cut band of swiss around it, slightly pleated where it meets brim; brim consists of long rectangle of embroidered cotton gathered to crown (top) and a plain circle of swiss (underside), sandwiching interfacing. A pink silk ribbon is tied around crown in a bow.

Silk rep, ivory; entirely hand stitched; little padded circular cushion-like top with earflaps; blue silk bow at side; one remaining blue silk tie (has fine corded edges) Lined with coarse soft quilted cotton flannel. Kilted net edging all around; piped top seam.

1) Natural color, fine Leghorn straw; flat shallow crown with with flat circular brim; black velvet ribbon with long, neat streamers. Inside of crown has paper liner marked: black velvet ribbon with streamers. Inside of crown has paper liner marked: “Italian make/ J.B.W./ Florence/No.5 Style 515 size 45.” Elastic tie. 13: brim. Child size 2) Hat box not acquired with the hat. Round white covered pasteboard box.

Hat, golden tan silk chiffon covering tarlatan over wire frame with ear pieces. Quilling around crown, above band of creped chiffon, single glass-bead faux pearls stitched at 1” intervals. Roll of tulle passed through series of narrow turquoise velvet ribbon loops protruding from under front brim. Narrow white silk ribbon ties, 9” at earpieces. 30” lengths of 4” wide silk taffeta ribbon, golden tan, attached above earpieces, anchored with row of ‘pearls.’

Entirely hand stitched. Midnight blue velvet top, deep so it can be artistically crushed over left ear; crown base made of yellow and blue cisele velvet with geometric design. Small curved velvet beak with varnished underside. Leather sweat band, green-red shot silk lining, quilted with light batting. Double black (now brown) silk braid swag across front; tassel of several similar strands of braid hanging from left side top. Two covered buttons and braided frogs on top.

Soft brown sealskin cap with earflaps and visor. Has a generally elongated, rounded crown not flat topped. A round elastic cord, doubled, is attached to the front edge of each earflap, presently concealed within flap, going around back of crown (appears intended to go across the front). The small sections of hide apparently are hand stitched together. Heavy black sateen lining: a side strip circling the crown is machine top-stitched with a chain stitch to the edge of the crown; another top-stitched to that, its opposite edge pleated and hand stitched onto a center circle for the top of the crown. The gold hot-stamped shield logo on the center of the lining. Because the lettering is basic rather than ornate, I speculate the earlier date but it could be 1900 as well as not.

Hat of shiny black straw. Oval shaped. Black satin hat band laid over top, round cockade on one side and quilled band of ribbon on other side. Seems appropriate for male rather than female attire. No label. The quilling suggests mourning.

Fine tan leghorn gypsy hat. Deep cylindrical crown with indented channel around outside of the top; lined halfway up with thin cotton. “42” penciled inside top. Wide brim, made narrower across back. Underside edge has a wavy band of bonnet wire attached to it, along with a pale white pleated china silk lining. Brim joined to crown with a strip of cardboard concealed by the ribbon laid over crown and around the base, formed into large bow on each side, knot on top of crown. Narrow version forms long ties. The thin brocaded silk ribbon, once a pale aqua perhaps, has gauze borders bearing caterpillar-like fringe on 1/2” intervals.

Dark blue velvet fanchon hat, dish-type, on a wire frame. The velvet is gently gathered over the front edge and more forms a stiffened drape across the front beneath the rim, with coarse white lace sandwiched between. A frill of black lace stands up behind the front velvet and also forms a bow and streamers with black taffeta ribbon in the back. Wide, long black taffeta ribbon ties. No lining

Dark red felt porkpie hat with black velvet on outside of turned up brim. Cockade of dark bird’s wing with large feathers next to it on one side. From this a large, loose half-rosette of wide red satin ribbon extends to cover the crown almost to the opposite side.

Lady’s fedora or Alpine style hat with narrow, closely turned-up brim. Made of strips of translucent gray horsehair laid over with sky blue silk, ornamented with small straw flower heads and ‘embroidery.’ Brim lined with silk; half-lining of ivory net remains, minus the drawstring. Black elastic loop. Probably needs a plume.
