Bonnet with wire frame, shallow brim. Coarse ivory net over ivory silk, gathered onto foundation, retained by transverse rows of narrow pale pink braid. Matching bavolet. Trimmed with 2”yellow ombre silk ribbon with widely-spaced, pink and white geometric brocade weft stripes, placed over top back toward lower front. Bows at sides. No ties except for one remaining narrow ivory silk ribbon tie pinned to inside, pin and remnant of opposite tie present.

Black leghorn straw bonnet, slightly flaring tubular style. Black bombazett[?] cape over soft tarlatan; 2 bands of crape laid neatly over mid of bonnet and one over front edge; front brim lined with crepe; stiffened with tarlatan; cotton lining - brown striped with black - with drawstring in crown. plain 2.5” wide black silk taffeta ribbon ties with diagonally trimmed edges. Goes well with Bonnet Veil #97.059 .

Grey lace straw bonnet, slight flare to brim. Wired edge curving under chin. Original lavender silk taffeta ribbon with pink brocade floral motif, used also as stiffened bavolet. Original lavender silk lining.

Formed of narrow rows of flat, shiny straw with simple decorative edge. Toward edge of brim is a loosely woven braid of fine textured straw. Paper lining toward rear; front lined with loose fine silk crepey gauze, pale greyish green.

Drawn bonnet, brown silk over wire frame designed to sit atop head and clear the chignon. Pointed dip in front edge, original floral ornament across front composed of fuschia-like blossoms, leaves and silvered balls. Narrow ribbon ties and wide, long ties. Black lace edging along edges.

Black silk taffeta drawn bonnet, slightly flared brim edge. Buckram interior. Black moire-effect ribbon ties and tucked taffeta bavolet. Different black silk ribbon bow on lower back.

Longhorn Bonnet, tunnel shaped, had original ribbon in place. Pale blue plaid with rib and scalloped edges. It is wrapped from back of neck to double ribbon on top. Two rows of slightly frilled ribbon spilt down the middle line inner brim. Bavolet. Buckram lining. Self-ties.

Bonnet with white silk-covered wire frame. Covered with light pink satin trimmed with bands and folds of pink faille and thin, coarse white silk lace. Back finished with large bow of pink silk ribbon, same as ties - one pinned on as originally [I guess]. Wide bavolet edged with faille, wired bottom edge. Has separate thin white silk lining with casing for drawstring in back (missing).

Bonnet, shallow crown extending into brim, intended to sit on back of head; slight peak in front. Buckram base covered with black-checker-edged blue ribbon and bands of clear horsehair. Large black velvet ribbon bow with blue ribbon streamer added, on proper left side of head. Little rosettes of black lace centered with narrow black velvet ribbon bows spaced across top and back of bonnet on top of horsehair bands. Spray of red velvet flowers inside proper left; faced with blue ribbon. No label.

Bonnet of alternating tan wool braid and brown straw braid. Round crown and rather abruptly turned up brim. Surrounded with crushed brown and rust silk ribbon forming bow in lower back and on top, as well as ties. In back, an additional brown grosgrain ribbon fills out back bow. Inside faced with brown foulard. Over the head is a pleated frill of white net between lesser frills of black tulle.

Girl’s bonnet of coarse dark brown straw in lacy arrangement. Rather narrow but deep crown with medium deep brim flaring up in front about at a right angle to the crown. Looks equally likely for either end of the date spectrum. Carefully lined with light blue tissue paper sewn in like a fabric lining.

Drawn bonnet made of C and black silk taffeta, wired front. Curved tunnel form, flaring slightly at the front. Bavolet. Original black taffeta ribbon draped across the top with a bow and streamers on proper left, and ties (pinned on). Back half lined with buckram.

Shallow mourning bonnet covered with black dull wool, and coarse crape that forms a large bow across the front. Long, narrow grosgrain ribbon ties pinned to a more comfortable anchorage point.

Mourning bonnet for the top of the head with a chignon. Covered with fine crepe all over, wrapped around rim; large coarse crepe worked into bow that covers the top, accented with a large, long facetted black glass bead in the center. Grosgrain ties

Bonnet made of warm brown rep or epingle, boxy shape in back; black drawn silk front. Large self bow on proper left side, trimmed with coarse black lace. 2 buckram ‘shelves’ at top front support orange-red flocked flowers and dark brown flocked leaves with coarse brown and white net frilling. Narrow black silk functional ties, one velvet.

Hat box and bonnet, Quaker.The bonnet is covered with black silk rep and the brim lined with cream colored lustring. The crown is backed with buckram and the brim is covered pasteboard; hand sewn. Apparently original thin black silk ribbon bonnet ties. The crown is fitted with a box pleat on the top with two pleats on either side; gathered around base and trimmed with a small, flat bow of thin black silk ribbon

Drawn bonnet or sunbonnet made of colorful plaid or madras and self-lined. Standard format with 7 cane hoops in back, a pair and then a triplet in front; the back and front ones each with added frill. Self bow in back. Medium length cape with rounded corners in front, and self ties with half-rounded ends. The indicators of a later, rather than earlier date: the rounded corners, the self lining, and the unusually colorful cotton which has a heavier white accent thread in the warp repeat.This was described as a “Quaker” bonnet.

Celadon green silk drawn bonnet, high in front. Front rim wound with fancy black brocade ribbon, also used to edge the bavolet. More brocade ribbon used to make complex looped bow at top. Only one all-black brocade ribbon tie remains, may not be original.

Trimmed with wide brocaded white silk ribbon with pink edges and borders, forming loops with streamers on either side. On the proper left, artificial pink wild roses and pale green foliage are worked into the loops. Brim is faced with ivory (faded pink?) silk, rimmed inside with frills of blonde lace mingled with small pink flowers and a single blown-glass red berry. Buckram bavolet partially covered with ribbon and edged with darker straw braid. Lined with loose buckram. No labels or marks. Red, blue and cream plaid silk ribbon ties, short, that appear to be add ons although they may be period ribbon. They are pieced and coming apart at the seam.

Leghorn straw bonnet edged with darker, fine straw cord-effect braid. Form flares around face, sits back on head. Trimmed with wide blue silk ribbon brocaded with white flowers, forming large bows with streamers on either side. Brim is faced with ivory silk, rimmed inside with frills of blonde lace mingled with small pink artificial flowers and wild roses. Buckram bavolet partially covered with ribbon and edged with darker straw braid. Lined with loose buckram. No labels or marks. Dark blue narrow silk ribbon functional ties stitched atop the red, blue and cream plaid silk ribbon show ties that are short, and appear to be add ons although they may be period ribbon.

Entirely hand stitched bonnet-cap of shot silk lustring, grey warp almost entirely covering a plum weft- the colors look oddly green in places. Crescent-shaped pasteboard visor lined with pale yellow silk persian; its inner edge is wired. The crown is gathered onto the brim, its free neck edge, straight and on-grain, is finished with a casing and drawstrings made of what appears to be two 3/4” strips ripped along the selvage of a very fine and thin off-white cotton or linen. Most surprising, the crown was originally lined with a thin hand-laid paper like a heavy tissue paper. The casing was formed by sewing the paper lining to the silk, right sides together, at the neck edge, then turning them right side out and stitching a casing along that edge. Then the 2 layers were whipped together in gathers to the brim. At the top, the gathers are on the outside, as if there was some sort of ornamental addition there. The paper is still rather "clothy" in texture, not brittle as modern tissue paper would be. This would appear to have been almost a whimsy, not particularly sturdy and not expected to last.

Girl’s bonnet made on a wired buckram foundation, made of yellow satin, the brim covered with joined bands of artfully folded yellow satin ribbon with fancy-woven lacy edges, backed with yellow gauze; partially lined with fine silk tailored to fit. No ties. There is a thin 6” long, 1/4” white silk ribbon tie stitched inside the brim at the top, one at the side, and presumably another missing on the other side, purpose unknown. The form flares fairly wide around the face and is a tad high at the center front.

Lady’s drawn bonnet made of semi-sheer beige cotton, appears to be drawn over canes. Flares around face, sits back on head with cylindrical crown and high center front brim, the inside filled with small white apple blossoms or the like. Crown covered with widely spaced, interlaced, double folded bias cloth strips; the brim is banded with woven strips of the same. More form a large ‘pom pom’ effect on either side.

One Shaker sister's bonnet made of natural color straw with straw braiding where the brim that meets at the crown. On the inside of the crown is a paper label with the following written on it: "8".

One Shaker bonnet made of black/natural straw with a design on both the crown and the brim. It has a straw tape trim on the edge of the front of the brim and around where the crown and the brim are joined. There is stiff cotton binding on the rear edge of the brim, around the base of the crown and inside to the cover of the seam between the crown and the brim. A paper with "7" is pasted on the interior of the crown.

Small bonnet for back of head made from black silk faille and small black beads. Possibly gutta percha or dyed carved nut. Lining of black cotton on interior - coming loose. Very small shallow crown to bonnet. Some beads are a bit loose, but no bead disease noticed. Ties hanging down are a bit tattered in areas.

Child's bonnet with woven straw design and netting. Straw "curls" rows from back of hat to brim. Floral semi-circles of straw and net adorn the brim. Back of hat has strings of small straw balls covering the entire back. Brown velvet lining on inside of brim with remainder of lining cotton. Brim is adorned with small black beads.

Purple silk velvet bonnet with brim of double serpentine bands of braided straw and chenille. Silk velvet blossoms and pressed velvet leaves. Purple velvet back puff, satin single-faced ribbons ties. Labeled on the inside "E. H. Fielding & Co."

"Hand stitched drab gold silk bonnet cover, slightly darker lining; long tubular shape with deep interlined (batting) bavolet, shirred at top edge. Two layers stitched together or sparsely quilted, thin layer of batting. Braided linen tape drawstring through front edge of brim; two more in farther. Shirred at edge meeting horseshoe crown. Self ties attached at corner of bavolet and brim.

Entirely hand stitched semi-sheer windowpane checked white cotton. Corded brim; facing inside within the boundaries of cording. piping at crown edge. Brim and 7” gauged bavolet edged with lace. Drawstring at base of crown; ties with satin stripe and edged scalloped edge.

Entirely hand stitched white checked dimity. Deep corded brim, average crown. Cape about 14” long with 1/2” hems. Self ties set back within brim. Plied cotton cord drawstrings in casings at CB.

Child’s sunbonnet made of dark blue heavy gingham, entirely hand stitched. Corded brim with crown gathered into it; the lower crown has a narrow casing and drawstring in the back. Deep bavolet beautifully gathered onto the crown and brim; drawstring in neckline; self ties to tie in back and another pair to tie under chin.

Girl’s sunbonnet, brown plainwoven cotton, hand stitched except for narrow ruched trim hemmed by machine. 4 drawn rows, trimmed at front and rear edges of brim; rear or crown ruched to tarlatan foundation; long gathered flounce on back & sides. Self ties. Self lining, supported by 3 covered wires from front to back.

Entirely hand stitched medium weight white cotton. Five bands of cording form brim. Horseshoe crown with piped seams. Tiny narrow plainwoven ties pull crown seam closer inside, to first band of cords at brim to cause a puffy effect between. Long cape completely around brim. 1” hem, slightly flared.

Entirely hand stitched. Brown cotton print with cream speckles. Frill on bavolet and front edge, self-ties, cardboard strip stiffeners in brim. Gathered at back with shoe-lace-type cord; also top held with another cord and a composition shoe button, self-bow.

Entirely hand stitched white windowpane checked dimity. Brim is ribbed cotton, 2 layers. Self dimity ties. Machine lace edging on brim. Long bavolet and slightly flaring deep brim. Drawstring across lower back. Crown seam is unusually wide (.5”) and not overcast. The rest is very fine.

White cotton with tiny black sprig stripe. Machine stitched rows in brim, through papery interlining. Long cape, narrow hand stitched hem, front edged with narrow hand stitched self frill. Self bow on top back. Ties hand hemmed.

Entirely hand stitched white cotton girl’s sunbonnet. The brim just comes to the forehead; shallow horseshoe crown, 6” bavolet, self ties. Front of brim stiffened with two rows of cording. Casing in back with fine cotton tape drawstring.

Entirely hand stitched sunbonnet made of gray, tan and ivory ikat striped gingham. Deep crown stiffened with cardboard strips. Long, continuous bavolet; all edged with short self-frill; gathered at back, with self-ties there and inside the front.

Entirely hand stitched girl’s sunbonnet made from white cotton. 5 groups of cords in brim, medium long curtain. Self-ties inside and out. Self-frill all around. Back opens completely flat for laundering, and buttons with small white China buttons. A loop from inside anchors around a button on the top back to control top fullness. Drawstring in back.

Boy’s black cowhide boots with red panels in upper front. Leather pull loops on each side. Unlined. Stacked heels (reheeled, nails), straight last, rounded square toes. Stitched soles.

Pari of men's leather boots with heel and arched insole. Squaresigh toe just beginning to round out. High height, with different leather facing at CF. Front tops are arched up, with two sets of tabs on either side of boot top. Nails acorss bottom heel and toe area. High arch. Hand-stitched. side seams.

Pair of lady's leather boots with laces. Tall oxford style with slightly curved heel. Outer is leather while inner is cotton canvas. Tongues. Metal grommets for lacing. Leather soles.

Prof rubberized bathing boots, deep blue cotton sateen. Calf height, flat heels, slightly rounded toes. Flat black rubber soles, red braid around front opening, heel and vamp. Laces up the front over a tongue. Lined with off-white cotton

Entirely hand stitched bootees, brown sateen with patent leather foxing. Center front seam, back seam. High vamp or foxing curved under instep. Heel foxing. Side laced with one brown lace. Edges bound with ribbon; faced with kid; tongue. Lined with white jean. No label. 3 tack holes, no heels. Round heel, narrow waist, rounded square toes.

Bootees made of celadon green silk rep with watered patterning. Taupe Russia leather foxing; side lacing; no heels; slightly rounded square toes. Tinted carved border on each side of the sole. Straights.

Pink satin bootees, "gypsy" seam over vamp, side lacing. Short gold silk fringe around the top. No heels, slightly rounded square toes. Left-right soles. The tongue is still a very bright pink.

Pair of girls' button bootees. White kid leather and 8 round buttons; scalloped top edge.

Pair of lady's boots made form kid skin toe and heel, lacing panels, with figured cotton side panels. Original laces present. POinted toe, with curved Louis wooden heels. Leather soles. General staining of kid skin, soles, and fabric.

Pair of lady's tall boots with wavy/scalloped top edge. Made from cotton lining inner with chamois facing, and drab green wool sateen outer fabric. Heeled with Louis heal. Rounded square toe. Laced up CF instep, with original laces. Leather sole with wood heels, stamped "N. J. H & P Byrnes Rochester, NY" on bottom of each sole. Soiling and some tearing of fabric outer.

A pair of lady's pale green kidskin leather booties. Short spoon heel, with Louis curve in back. Side closure of buttons, with scalloped edge, pointed. Pointed tow with pointed toe covering of self kidskin. Leather and sole with wooden heel. Not straights. Polished wood rounded buttons, with metal shanks. Cotton twill lining, with silk facing - shredded but still attached. Considerable staining of kidskin under overlap of closure edge. Some area staining on heels of shoes.

Fine red and cream-colored wool knit bootees, newborn sized. Red silk grosgrain ribbon threaded around ankle; give effect of red slippers with white socks. Note in blue ink and shaky hand sewn to one: Socks I wore in 1851 by me. 3” long.

White cotton dimity infant booties, machine stitched with overcast seams; white cotton embroidered scalloped borders and floral motifs; ankle straps with eyelets for ribbons; long narrow self-sole with rounded toe. No lining. Overcast seams. 4” long.

Cream colored woo booties, hand knit in shell stitch on deep cuffs, ribs on feet; square heels; knit hole around the ankles for insertion of narrow ribbon ties, ending in little tabs at front. 5” high, 4” long.

Entirely hand-stitched child's booties made of peach albatross (fine twilled wool). Long narrow white kid soles with slightly rounded toes. Slit vamp, ankle high with side seam top stitched in silk. Embroidered white silk grape vine across each side. Edges bound with white silk ribbon hand sewn on. Small white silk bow at vamp. Closed with concealed hooks and eyes. Lined with white cotton.

Fine machine spun wool, infant booties; cream body with pink sole and top border. Pink silk ribbon threaded through ankle spaces. Knobby stitch in white. Garter stitch elsewhere. 3” high x 3 3/4” long.

Infant’s merino wool knit booties, ivory with pale pink soles, cuffs and ties ending in pompoms. Crochet loop edging. Round toes.

Hand crocheted ivory wool infant booties, 'slipper' foot, lacy pattern above. Self ties.

Fine crocheted cream-colored wool and pink wool infant booties. Scalloped tops with pink outlines. Pink ties with tassels threaded thru 'casing' at ankle. Pink 'shoe' effect on sole and toe area. 3.25” x 3.25”

Hand knit infant booties of cream wool with cable design. Red crochet scalloped tops. Plied yarns for ties, ended in red and white yarn ball pompoms. 3.5” x 3” high.

Pair of women's boots of pale pink silk taffeta, lined with white cotton, and bound with pink silk ribbon. Boots lace down inner sides of foot with pink silk lace over tongue. Narrow, squared toe; low knock-on opera heel, covered with taffeta. Mostly machine-sewn, with hand-sewn eyelets.

Pair of women's boots of black wool sateen and black elastic, lined with white cotton twill. V-shaped elastic panels are inserted in both sides of each ankle. Black wool tape loop sewn wot back of ankle, which points upward. (Only remains on A.) Rounded toe; straight sole, decorated with embossing and staining along instep, with short stacked, knock-on heel. Machine sewn.

Pair of woman's boots of white ribbed silk, lined with white cotton, and bound with white silk ribbon. Each fastens over tongue on inside of ankle with white silk lace. Squared toe; flat, straight sole. Center front and center back seams. Machine sewn and hand sewn. Possibly worn for a wedding.

Pair of child's boots of dark brown leather, fastening with black buttons down outside of ankle in scalloped flap. Leather soles. Black silk tassel remains on front of proper left boot.

Pair of little boy's leather tall boots. Boot upper is a red leather with a stamp of a mounted rider, possibly a knight or Paul Revere-like figure. Significant crackling of this portion of the boot, on each boot. Curved top front edges. Pulling away from body of boots on side. Soles are leather with nails.

Pair of woman's boots of white silk satin, lined with white cotton twill and faced with white kid leather under buttonholes; they fasten with white glass buttons on outside of foot. Rounded toe; low French heel, covered with satin. Largely machine sewn, with hand-sewn buttonholes.

Pair of women's boots of off-white cotton sateen, lined with white cotton twill, and bound with white silk ribbon. Lacing over tongue up inside of ankle, with white cotton lace. Rounded toe; low knock-on French heel. Machine lock-stitched seams, with hand-sewn binding and eyelets. Loose threads on toe of proper left shoe possibly indicate that there was once a rosette sewn to vamp.

Pair of men's boots of black alpaca twill or prunella with black leather toe caps, lined with white cotton twill and red kid leather, and bound with black silk ribbon. Triangular elastic inserts on either side of each ankle. Squared toe; straight sole with small stacked heel, ring marks, and embossing around edges. Hand and machine sewn.

White hinged cardboard compartmented presentation box containing 2 gilt-cork stoppered cologne bottles (one is Barney’s “Extract of Pond Lily”) and a pale blue silk sachet with applied die-cut floral stickers, and white fringe edging. Envelope containing 5 x 8 sentimental print of a Union soldier and his sweetheart in pink, hand colored. Verse. Message on reverse.

"Artificial flowers made of tarlatan and paper, covered with mica flakes; probably white originally. Small mums, buds, flowering grasses and leaves. 1) Large bouquet on one heavy wire stalk 2) Wreath 3) Small spray3 1/2” wide lengths of light blue thin silk satin ribbon, knotted together was in the box- not sure if it was used with these items. Part of Anna Hoppin Dyer’s wedding accoutrements."

Interior of the lid is lined with brown pattern-printed paper, having a wide mirror in the center attached with a band of blue pattern-printed paper. Base lined with thin pink paper. Tray has 9 main divisions, lined with blue paper. Pincushion and 2 lids are covered with red-ground printed cotton. An old, if not original key is present. 11 1/8” x 7 7/8”

Mahogany sewing box with stringing; 3 'storeys' of graduated size; ivory finials; pincushion on top; upper level for spools on spindles, bone eyelets on thread holes; mahopgany flame veneer on 2 drawers; wooden knobs, ball feet; mirror slide; marked ""Manufactured by M. Watrous Andover, Ct."

Sewing box with veneer of rosewood and ivory and tiny mosaic panels (steel?) with ebony (black), jasper (red) and malachite (green) triangles; interior fitted with 3 thread containers and 2 canisters, and 3 matching veneered lidded compartments, a spool rod, pincushion, and 2 narrow spaces. Reddish velvet lining in lid. Brass lock.

Work box or sewing kit of unusually elaborate form; curved or bowed sides with 4 ‘columns’ that extend into feet. Textured tan leather with applied dark green velvet panels accented with a variety of cut steel spangles and fittings. Green watered silk lining with nicely crafted silk-trimmed leather pockets for fittings. 2 leather loop handles. This is a more expensive model

Sewing box, factory made of mostly of walnut, with 3 pine doors decorated with a slab of pine with walnut bands. Black painted trim. Consists of an upright ‘cabinet’ above a desklike section. The doors slide to the sides, revealing a removable shelf which has metal posts to hold spools, and below, a dark velvet covered pincushion. The ‘desk’ lid lifts to reveal a compartment with a drawer at the top. All painted a thin yellow inside. 9.5” high.

In Center of crown on moire backdrop are initials with date: "C V P V 1865" Unsure if 1865 is wedding date or date of anniversary - most likely the original wedding date.

Braces (suspenders that attach with a button), fronts embroidered on ivory silk with silk chenille thread in shades of green, coral, yellow, and blue. Paired vines crossing each other under roses. At the top are yellow birds with leafy twigs. Within each space between the vines are initials made of small silver spangles and silver boullion. Added narrow straps for the front buttons; buttonhole in back. Backs are white cotton. Bound with slate blue ribbon.

Brassiere of ivory rayon or celanese (cellulose acetate) satin, with off-white ribbon straps; Top and bottom edges are faced with off-white cotton bias tape, and heavier cotton is used to back hooks and eyes. Worn silk roses at center front of neckline. Front is lightly shaped with two small darts on either side of bottom, and one horizontal dart on either side. Fastens at back with two hooks and eyes

Entirely hand-stitched fine ivory cassimere breeches and singular silk glove. Pair of breeches (1) - semi-wide fall front; high rise; one pocket; self covered bone buttons except for thin pearl buttons on cast shanks at the knees; faced with thin white glazed cotton or linen fabric. Placket in back with a handwoven tape tie remaining in a pair of the holes. One man's glove (2) - squarish white silk glove in the pocket, with elongated thumb hole. 3 parallel points worked on the back.

Entirely hand-stitched breeches made of fleece-backed (warm) white silk satin. Sits at natural waist with wide falls closed with self-covered buttons. Buttons on the waist for suspenders are heavy stamped brass 4-hole trouser buttons. A triangular tab projecting up from the top edge of the waistband faced with thin white cotton with pinked edges. Triangular gusset in the center back, and tabs for a buckle (removed). Narrow knee bands with sewn-on small, rectangular silver or silver plate buckles. No other pockets. The stitching is so excellent it appears machine-done, but it is not.

Entirely hand stitched, soft yellowish-tan doeskin (?); gusset and leather tie in back; 12” fall front with 2 leather-covered horn buttons, 3 large for closure; loop for shirt; watch pocket. 2 plain brass plated buttons for braces front and back. 4 buttons/laces at knees; brass plated button for boots.

Entirely hand-stitched breeches made of brown corduroy. Unlined. Strap at the knee with a placket with 5 small simple copper or brass buttons. Backed with coarse linen and napped wool. Wide fall, with 4 buttonholes and the same buttons as at the knees. Deep, high waistband with 2 pr. Hand-stitched eyelets on either side of a slit in the center back. PW linen tape tie-in holes. The front has wide pockets across the hips. Welt pocket near the top of the right waistband with coarse linen linings. A variety of brass buttons at the center front where they wouldn’t show. The front closes with 3 1” brass coat buttons, each different. One plain (alpha shank), one with a raised, tooled rim (looped shank), and one with die-stamped wheel motif bearing traces of gilt (ring shank). The waistband is lined with the same coarse linen which is also used to cover the back seam allowances. Fall lined with thin twilled tan wool.

Buckskin breeches, all hand stitched, quite beautifully. Medium fall, pocket on proper left and watch pocket opposite. Appears as though the leather web spanning the notch in the back was slit to give a wider fit. 4 suspender buttons and one to close first pocket; 3 close the front, 2 the fall, and 2 more below the knees (1 each). Each is made of horn with a metal shank, covered with buckskin. At the knees are 4 buttonholes each with an early, thick, MOP button with swaged and drilled shank, hand worked and unquestionably of the period and original to the breeches. Size indicates it was for, probably, for a lanky but full-height youth

entirely handstitched golden brown cotton velveteen or thickset [?], lined with coarse PW cotton. Wide fall, with 3 small omega shank pewter buttons on either side, slim legs, 7 inch opening with 6 more buttons. 3 large buttons on CF. Side pockets beneath the fall. Seat is generously sized, 2 pr eyelets for lacing back waist, cotton twill tape (probably not original).

Breeches, entirely hand stitched, made of pale pink silk grosgrain. Deep waistband, small fall front. 3 large convex self buttons at CF, 4 more smaller flat ones for corners of fall and of pocket flaps at sides. upper side pocket with welt. Lined with unbleached linen. Knee band is embroidered with roses and twisted ribbons. Five matching embroidered knee buttons on each side. Three green stripes in silk selvages. Buttonholes clumsily overstitched with pinkish thread in places.
