Embroidered vine on neck band, placket, pleats and cuffs. 2) Long, straight drawers set into waistband closed at center back with large mother of pearl button. Open all the way. Vine embroidery on hem beneath 3 bands of pin tucks. Edged with frill like chemise.

Underarm gussets. Short, tubular sleeves. Cotton plain weave tape drawstring in the back only. Length of tape attached to one side only, just above the hem with no apparent purpose. There are the remains of threads in an uneven line across the back, and more along the sleeves.

Chemise of very light pink silk crepe-de-chine, made as an unshaped tube. Top edge is finished with off-white cotton net insertion and lace, with floral motif at center front of neckline and a butterfly on either side, matching the decoration on 2026.16.004.3. Narrow self-fabric straps. Hand sewn.

Chemise of ivory silk crepe-de-chine, made as an unshaped tube. Upper edge is sewn with handkerchief hem, then edged with an ecru cotton lace; straps of off-white silk satin ribbon. "ID" is cross-stitched in ivory silk thread at proper left side of neckline. Lower edge has short slit cut in on proper right side, and slit left at bottom of overcast seam on proper left. Hand sewn.

Lady's cotton chemise - long in length. Body has shaped panels - cut, shaped, but also shaped further with darts along the mid section of the body. Short sleeves that button by three milk glass buttons across the shoulder. Wide neckline, and CB closure of same milk glass buttons. Flounce across hem - approx. 1' deep with three tucks. Three more tucks up body of chemise, above the applies flounce. Seam of flounce is covered in machine-embroidered cotton tape. Short sleeves and neckline finished with sleeve and neck bands, piping in between layers, and flounce gathered and attached to banding. Picot edging finished all flounces - neckline, sleeves, hem. Chest of chemise has a rounded edge panel that is fille din with tiny tucks, panels of picoting faggoted together, edged with piping, and then a flounce with more picoting on the edges. Sleeves have similar panels applied to front of sleeves and back. Some hand-finishing on inside, by almost entirely machine-stitched. There is a line of stitching that has been removed above the hem flounce - most likely a fourth tuck.

Child's chemise is made of white-on-white sheer cotton in a square pattern. 1/2" ruffle around the entire garment. Three MOP buttons at the front.

Young girl's chemise of plain weave cotton. Entirely hand-stitched from two layers of cotton, sewn together at side seams. 1/4" deep hem all all sides, with Mother of Pearl buttons (2) at each shoulder. Small piping around neckline and shoulder/sleeve edges, trimmed with hand-rendered picot. A few small stains are present and a few very small holes.

Infant or small child's chemise of plain weave cotton. Most hand-sewn with some machine-stitching attaching the yoke/neckline to the chemise. Body is cut from large rectangular piece, with shaped sleeves attached. Neckline/yoke extends over shoulder line, creating rounded sleeve "caps." Hand-crotched loops finish edges of sleeves, sleeve caps, and neckline. Chemise body is gently gathered to neckline/yoke.

Young woman's cotton chemise. Short - possibly for either a short woman or a young woman/teen. Lady's chemise of plain weave cotton. Body is gathered slightly to neckline, which is scooping but not exactly wide. Neckline has edge of cotton strip, and band, into which the body of the chemise is gathered and set. Top edge of neckline band is trimmed with machine-embroidered whitework tape, as well as the end of the short sleeves. Short sleeves are shaped to fit into armscye, rather than square with a gusset in underarm. Sleeves have rows of tucks sewn in place. Center front opening of chemise with placket area, button closure of carved MOP buttons. Placket are is trimmed with more machine-embroidered whitework tape. Armscyes and shoulder area or reinforced with shaped cotton panels sewn into place. Bottom hem edge has 2.5" deep hem. Entirely machine-stitched save for some hand-finishing inside and the buttonholes.

Entirely hand-stitched girl’s chemise made of sturdy unbleached cotton. Drawstring through the narrow, somewhat deep round neckline, and drawstring through casing at rather high front waist. Box pleat formed in the back after the neckline was finished, stitched down its center to the waist level. Sleeve tops cut in one with the body with curved underarms, straight long sleeves extended 2” by piecing, butted-selvage-style. Also has 4 short side gores with butted selvages.

Chemise of plain weave cotton. Chemise is very long with small tucks at waist are (vertical) to slightly shape chemise. No sleeves. Neckline and armscyes are finished with machined-buttonhole edging stitches, in a scalloped pattern. machine-embroidery at center front cartouche with filigree, surrounded by machined sprigs. Bottom hem is hand-sewn in place. Side seams are also sewn by hand.

Brass hooks and eyes, boned edge. Enlarged by releasing darts, seams, removing bones, adding piece at shoulder.

Chemisette, entirely hand stitched white plain weave cotton windowpane dimity. High neck with needlerun lace edging on single net frill. Whipped onto neckline; thin muslin binding. Coarsely embroidered Ayreshire-type insertion with fagotting, along each side of center front opening. Lower corners under arms joined by .5” cotton tapes. No fasteners. Very neat. Neck frill of square mesh net with rudimentary lace edging with integral cordonnet. Seems too flat for an adult woman, and too short.

White hand stitched medium weight cotton. Front opening with Dorset thread buttons. Wide scoop neckline piped and edged with machine embroidered cartwheel edging. Piped armscyes with short puffed sleeves finished with embroidered insertion ‘cuff’ and same edging as neckline. 1 1/4” waistband with “Hannah T. Colony” inked near opening. 4 bust darts in front, each with whalebone. Drawstring through neckline, and 3” cord loop hangs down from center back.

Sheer white cotton bodice insert with narrow hems. Pleat in center front simulates closure. Embellished with embroidery salvaged from previous garments, appliqued to cloth. Mostly heavy satin stitch forming various compound leafy, ferny shapes and passionflower-like blossoms. Various leaves in “button” positions on ‘closure.’

Sleeves - mere tubes - made of fine white cotton embroidered with diagonal waving lines in French knots, bullion stitches etc with leaf border having openings filled with net. They appear to have been salvaged from another garment and clumsily installed. The embroidery, while suitably scaled, It continues into the seams which would seem a terrible waste of embroidering effort. There is no lining, but the piece is hemmed neatly.

Body is short, with no method of fastening under arms; front edges are very narrowly hemmed (1/16") and whipped to a length of cotton net, which is then enclosed in a doubled length of cotton, giving the impression of lace insertion. Back has odd trapezoidal pieces on either side of bottom, resulting in upward-pointing seams. Wide, rounded collar with whip-gathered ruffle around edge.

Mariseille work quilted chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy) with near near grades of white cotton, entirely hand-stitched. Possibly 2 stitchers (?). Some is very precise, the rest is a bit looser. Large center square field on point containing a basket of flowers (roses?), squares based on number 4 in each corner. Having tassels at lower corners and pal, or leaf sprig at top corners (tallit with tzitzit). Also ears of ripened corn.

Rectangular ivory clamp with fluted side, little urn attached to top and larger vasiform spindle as base for spool, topped with a finial. Threaded screw with flat thumb grip. 5 1.4"" high. Underneath top arm, inked ""8/2 3/"""

Pair of ivory clamps with reels and ball holders; 4 3/4" high minus clamps; all original; English.

Brass bird clamp with circular plate below for pincushion, and tiny well on back for same; key shaped screw head. Green velvet on pincushions. Wings marked ""Patented Feb. 15 1853.

Polished steel sewing bird. Cut decorations on clamp, incorporating oval escutcheon (?). Pierced handle on screw key. Graceful curved spring handle; container for pincushion with replacement of dull red velvet which may be old.

Ring formed of beaded fabric interlined with paper, lined with yellow silk ribbon. Olive green silk taffeta bow covers seam. ""Music"" in scrolled capitals in med size green translucent beads, with red translucent sprigs scattered on opal white ground. 7.5" x 2.5"

Baby's cloak of ivory cotton, interlined with something thin. Outer layer is embroidered with little tufts of off-white wool, and edges are crocheted with scalloped edging (outermost row on edging is crocheted from off-white silk). One corner is rounded off and has a drawstring channel made of an ivory cotton twill tape stitched partially across interior on diagonal, filled with a drawstring of ribbon, to form hood for baby.

Hooded cloak of brilliantine (cotton/mohair) twill in orange, green, black, and purple stripes with faint cross-bars, lined in brown cotton flannel; hood is lined in green silk taffeta. Body and hood are pleated to turn-down collar of brown silk velvet, bound with off-white silk ribbon. Fastens at front of neck with very large metal hook to eye on chain. There are arm slits in the side seams, each with a band of brilliantine bound in silk ribbon applied over it. Hood is drawn in on a green silk ribbon in a tuck around the edge, forming a self-fabric ruffle. Hand sewn.

Cloak of purple-brown wool twill, wadded/interlined, and lined with light brown polished cotton. Rounded turn-down collar, edged with brown silk fringe, set onto a wide yoke with self-fabric piped edging. Body is attached to yoke with knife pleats pointing toward center back, with yoke lining whipped down over pleats to cover raw edges. Fastens with hooks and eyes as usual in yoke, and with hooks that face out down front of body. Slits for arms cut into sides and finished with wool plackets. Hand sewn.

Cloak of brown silk taffeta, lightly wadded, and lined with brown polished cotton in back and yoke and with black silk taffeta in front. Very wide collar with points at shoulders, bound with self-fabric cut on the bias along the edges. Wide, rounded yoke is piped along edges. Body is knife-pleated to yoke with pleats that point toward center back. Center front closure with hooks and eyes on yoke only. Hand sewn.

Hooded cloak of dark blue mohair, lined with green wool in the body and partially lined with light blue silk taffeta in the hood. Small, rounded turn-down collar, edge piped with light blue silk. Two hooks and eyes at neck. Hood is very full, and bound with the same light blue silk; a drawstring runs through a channel set back from the edge, which creates a ruffle. Body lining includes a narrow panel of slightly different (coarser) green wool, and ends several inches above hem of cloak. Hand sewn.

Wrap, entirely hand stitched thin silk satin. Pale greenish-gray body with pale pink hood, lined with ivory. (The images make it look more likely that the whole thing was once pink but pink and green do not usually fade in opposite directions.) Large, wide hood gathered with a ribbon in the center back attached to fitted waist-length cape with long, shaped, almost-rectangular panels in front, extending to ankles. Functional, narrow silk ribbon ties at throat, behind more decorative wide, thin satin ribbon ties.

Cloak of cotton in a dark blue resist print featuring stripes of green dots in groups of three and very abstracted floral sprigs, interlined with wool, and lined with off-white cotton. Wide collar, stiffened with interfacing and pad-stitching, and edged with self-fabric piping and ruffle; it is set onto a yoke that holds main body of cloak as well as a mid-length outer cloak. Body ends in a plain hem, but mid-length layer ends in piping, a bias band, and a ruffle. Very small remnants of self-fabric ties at neck edge; there is also a tiny piece of brown-printed cotton sewn further along the neck that may also be a tie remnant. Hand sewn.

Cloak of wool or mohair camlet in red/orange, green, yellow, black, and white tartan. Turn-down collar and capelet attach to neckline of yoke, to which body of cloak is gathered. Collar, capelet, and yoke are lined in green wool; body of cloak is mostly lined in black wool, with a large patch of rougher light green wool. Fastens at neck with two hooks and eyes. Slits for arms cut in at each side and bound with tartan.

Short cloak of a light yellow wool or cashmere, wadded, and lined with off-white silk taffeta. Pointed decorative hood hangs down behind, giving the impression of a collar in front. Neck edge is trimmed with long pink silk cord, which hangs free in front and ends in pairs of silk-covered beads and pink and white silk and mohair tassels. Matching silk braid binds edges of talma and hood. Two beads and another tassel hang from center of hood opening.

Small child's homemade ensemble consisting of two pieces in scarlet red wool: 1. 2025.11.001 Infant frock of red scarlet wool lined with brown glazed cotton fabric. Outer and inner wool panels are sewn together at same time, with machine and hand-finishing. Short-sleeves self-lined in red wool. Piping at neckline and armscye. carved MOP shank buttons down back, with buttoning side switching at waist. Cotton cream soutache braiding of grape and vine motif, across sleeves, neckline, and above hem. Staining throughout the frock, with some piping coming loose at neckline. 2. 2025.11.001 Infant hooded cloak of same crimson red wool fabric, lined with wool flannel in a cream color. Machine and hand-finishing. Wool outer and flannel inner sewn separately, then attached to one another. Some piecing in red wool fabric. Cotton cream soutache braiding across hood, down CF, and across back hem. Same grape-leaf and vine design as frock. Staining and holes throughout and wear at collar neckline opening. 3. 2025.11.003a-d Four photographs of the ensemble being worn by four different generations of boys: a - cabinet card of Jenna (2-28-1870) and Charles Wagner with Charles wearing the frock (4-6-1872). b - Cyanotype print on a postcard of little boy wearing frock with white shirt or chemise underneath and little boots. He stands at the top of the steps of a porch. On the front is written, "Thayer with a dress on his Dad's - a little red one. easter Sunday. Born 3-22-1908." c - Small photograph in black and white of another little boy wearing the frock with strapped shoes and socks on. In the sun, this time standing on the walkway in front of the same porch as the earlier image. ON the back is written, "Don't you love the expression?! Charles Ackerson in grandfather Wagner's dress. Born 4-16-1947." d - Late 20th-century printed photograph in color of a small child (girl) wearing the hooded cloak and dress inside of a home. On the back is written, "Samantha Ackerson in great-grandfather Wagner's dress and cape. About 1991? Born 10-16-1989."

Pair of child's clogs of rigid black leather. Shoes fasten with straps around ankle which button at front; collar below straps is narrow and ends in an upward curve over the instep. Wholecut, with back seam. Wooden sole, painted black under arch, reinforced with nailed-on iron bands around heel and front. Leather is held to sole with small brass tacks around entire edge. Square toe, curved up.

Folded length of brown glazed cambric (dress lining fabric), about 25” wide, retaining. Penciled on that is a crossed-out Z= above a line above “6[cents]” and a squiggle 72 and 2 squiggle next to the printed “yds.” Pinned to the fabric is a paper note reading “31 1/2 yds” but there are only perhaps a few yards left.
